FLIGHT OPERATIONS TRANSMISSION - FOT

TO: All A318,A319,A320,A321,A330,A340 Operators

SUBJECT: ATA 00 OPERATIONAL DOCUMENTATION ENHANCEMENT FOR A320/A330/A340

OUR REF.: 999.0030/17 Rev 00 dated 16-MAR-2017.

CLASSIFICATION: General information

APPLICABLE AIRCRAFT: This FOT is applicable to all A320, A330 or A340 aircraft.

Notice: This FOT provides general flight operations information. It is left to each
Operators discretion whether to distribute this FOT, or to distribute the information
contained in this FOT, to all of their applicable flight crews for information.

1. INTRODUCTION

All A320 family, A330 and A340 Operators will receive an FCOM/QRH/FCTM revision in March 2017,
regardless of their revision cycle.

The purpose of this revision is to release the second batch of enhancements of the FCOM, QRH and
FCTM, as part of the Operational Documentation Enhancement project.

As a reminder, the first batch of enhancements was released in March 2016.

The purpose of the second batch of the Operational Documentation Enhancement project is to:
- Strengthen the standardization of the operational documentation, particularly with other
Airbus programs like the A350 or the A380
- Provide a general enhancement of the content and the layout
- Adapt the content for electronic consultation of the operational documentation.

2. DESCRIPTION

More in details, we made the following enhancements in the FCOM, QRH, and FCTM:

2.2 IN THE FCOM:

1) General Structure:

Use of a functional approach, i.e. based on an ECAM system classification, instead of the current
ATA classification. Therefore, the following sections are sorted by the ECAM SYS in alphabetical
order:
- The Supplementary Procedures section
- The Abnormal and Emergency Procedures section
- The Limitations section.

2) Aircraft Systems Description Section:

All of the following Aircraft System chapters were enhanced:

Systems.

The following enhancements were performed:

Adaptation of the level of information

Standardization of the FCOM content, as already applied to the A350 or the A380 FCOM

This will reduce the size and the number of FCOM revisions.

In addition, for these aircraft system chapters, If Installed symbols were added to enhance the
management of the aircraft systems configuration.
Therefore, the systems, functions or equipment that can be managed as an option in the FCOM can
be associated with a If Installed symbol. This enables a lighter configuration management in the
documentation.

Finally, some information from the Supplementary Procedures section was moved to the Aircraft
Systems description section. This transfer of information resulted in the creation of the How To sub-
chapters.

3) Supplementary Procedures Section:

This section contains only normal procedures that are not routine in a Read and Do layout.
The Supplementary Procedures section are moved to the Normal Procedures section of the FCOM.

In addition, all of the following enhancements were made to the Supplementary Procedures section:

Transfer of the flying techniques to the FCTM (renamed as Flight Crew Techniques Manual in
2016)
Transfer of the abnormal procedures to the Abnormal and Emergency Procedures section of
the FCOM
Transfer of the descriptions information to the Aircraft System description section of the
FCOM. For some systems, this resulted in the creation of How To sub-chapters. (e.g. FCOM
DSC-52 How to Operate the Fwd and the Aft Cargo Doors).
Removal of the cabin-related or maintenance-related procedures.

4) Abnormal and Emergency Procedures Section:

All of the following enhancements were made to the Abnormal and Emergency Procedures section:

- Enhancement of the introduction (INT) chapter, as follows:

o Update the introduction content and procedure layout sections
o Move of the Standard Callout For Abnormal Operations from the Standard
Operating Procedures (SOP) to the Abnormal and Emergency Procedures
Introduction
o Transfer of the Operational Recommendations section to the FCTM
o Transfer of the Use of Summaries to the FCTM.

- Creation of the MEM chapter that lists the procedures that are entirely (e.g. STALL
RECOVERY) or partially (e.g. Unreliable Speed Indication procedure) performed from
memory. Take into account that the procedures that are entirely performed from memory are
removed from the QRH.

- Creation of a QRH chapter that lists the Abnormal and Emergency procedures that are also
included in the QRH

- Creation of a RST chapter that contains the System Reset Table with all of the following
updates:
o The resets are now sorted by ECAM SYS in alphabetical order
o For A320 family aircraft: The System malfunction or ECAM Warning/Caution and
the Affected System columns were merged to one single column
o The width of the "Reset" column is increased so that it can be read more easily. Its
title is changed to "Reset Procedure".

5) Limitations Section:

The following enhancements are made to the Limitations section:

- Removal of the limitations that are not operational

- Enhancement of the illustrations, and of the overall layout of this section.

2.3 IN THE FCTM:

In 2016, the FCTM was renamed as Flight Crew Techniques Manual.

The objective of the FCTM is to centralize in a single manual the techniques that are currently
published in the FCOM and the FCTM.

A technique is defined as a way to manage a normal or abnormal situation when it is not performed
using the read and do principle, and when it does not fall into the scope of Memory Items for which a
sense of urgency and aircraft specificity is defined.

Based on this philosophy, both of the following enhancements are made to the FCTM:

- Provide in the FCTM the techniques, while the FCOM provides the procedures.
- Amend the FCTM structure to mirror the FCOM structure.

Note:
Enhancement of A380 FCTM with the same philosophy as described above will be released from
April 2017.

2.4 IN THE QRH:

The QRH also takes advantage of the general enhancement of our operational documentation.

All of the following enhancements are made to the QRH:

- Adaptation of the readability of the QRH procedures, particularly in terms of layout

- Adaptation of the structure and procedures content for an electronic consultation of the QRH,
in accordance with the new Electronic QRH (eQRH) application
- Enhancement of the structure for standardization purposes with FCOM and other Airbus
programs (A380, A350).

Note that with this revision, there is neither change to the QRH procedures philosophy, nor to their
technical contents.

Also, a dedicated communication will be performed on the eQRH application at the beginning of May
2017.
