3. Ifthememberwasthestackmaster,thestackmasterelectionwilloccur,otherwisenoelectionwilloccur.
4. RemovetheStackWisecablesfromthememberandclosethestackring.
5. Issuethecommandshowswitchtoverifythestackmembership.

AddaProvisionedSwitchtoaSwitchStack
Whenyouaddaprovisionedswitchtotheswitchstack,thestackapplieseithertheprovisionedconfigurationorthedefaultconfiguration
toit.
Ifyouaddaprovisionedswitchthatisadifferenttypethanspecifiedintheprovisionedconfigurationtoapowereddownswitchstackand
thenapplypower,theswitchstackrejectsthe(nowincorrect)switchstackmembernumberprovisiontypeglobalconfiguration
commandinthestartupconfigurationfile.Withinstackinitialization,thenondefaultinterfaceconfigurationinformationinthestartup
configurationfilefortheprovisionedinterfaces(potentiallyofthewrongtype)areexecuted.Dependentuponhowdifferenttheactual
switchtypeisfromthepreviouslyprovisionedswitchtype,somecommandsarerejected,andsomecommandsareaccepted.
Youcanusetheofflineconfigurationfeaturetoprovision(tosupplyaconfigurationto)anewswitchbeforeitjoinstheswitchstack.In
advance,youcanconfigurethestackmembernumber,switchtype,andinterfacesassociatedwithaswitchthatarenotcurrentlypartof
thestack.Theconfigurationthatyoucreateontheswitchstackiscalledtheprovisionedconfiguration.Theswitchthatisaddedtothe
switchstackandthatreceivesthisconfigurationiscalledtheprovisionedswitch.
Youmanuallycreatetheprovisionedconfigurationthroughtheswitchstackmembernumberprovisiontypeglobalconfiguration
command.TheprovisionedconfigurationalsoisautomaticallycreatedwhenaswitchisaddedtoaswitchstackthatrunsCiscoIOS

Whenyouconfiguretheinterfacesassociatedwithaprovisionedswitch,forexample,aspartofaVLAN,theswitchstackacceptsthe
configuration,andtheinformationappearsintherunningconfiguration.Theinterfaceassociatedwiththeprovisionedswitchisnotactive,
yetitoperatesasifithasbeenadministrativelyshutdownthenoshutdowninterfaceconfigurationcommanddoesnotreturnittoactive
service.Theinterfaceassociatedwiththeprovisionedswitchdoesnotappearinthedisplayofthespecificfeatureforexample,itdoes
notappearintheshowvlanuserEXECcommandoutput
Theswitchstackretainstheprovisionedconfigurationintherunningconfiguration,whetherornottheprovisionedswitchispartofthe
stack.Youcansavetheprovisionedconfigurationtothestartupconfigurationfileifyouenterthecopyrunningconfigstartupconfig
privilegedEXECcommand.Thestartupconfigurationfileensuresthattheswitchstackcanreloadandusethesavedinformation,whether
ornottheprovisionedswitchispartoftheswitchstack
Note:Youcannotusetheswitchcurrentstackmembernumberrenumbernewstackmembernumberglobalconfiguration
commandonaprovisionedswitch.Ifyoudo,thecommandisrejected.

RemoveaProvisionedSwitchfromtheStack
IfaswitchstackrunsCiscoIOSRelease12.2(20)SEorlaterandyouremoveaprovisionedswitchfromtheswitchstack,the
configurationassociatedwiththeremovedstackmemberremainsintherunningconfigurationasprovisionedinformation.Inorderto
deleteallconfigurationinformationassociatedwiththeremovedswitch(astackmemberthathasleftthestack),applythenoswitch
provisioncommandinglobalconfigurationmode.
Inthisexample,switchnumber2wasremovedfromastack.ThemodelnumberoftheswitchisWSC375048TS:
3750(config)#noswitch2provisionwsc375048ts
3750(config)#exit
3750#writememory

Note:Inordertoavoidthereceiptofanerrormessage,youmustremovethespecifiedswitchfromtheswitchstackbeforeyouusethe
noformofthiscommandtodeleteaprovisionedconfiguration.

TheOutputInterpreterTool(registeredcustomersonly)(OIT)supportscertainshowcommands.UsetheOITtoviewananalysisofshow
commandoutput.
showswitchDisplaysallrelevantinformationrelatedtothestackmemberortheswitchstack.
showplatformstackmanagerallDisplaysinformationrelatedtothemanagementofstacks,whichincludesthestackprotocol
version,historyofchangestothestack,etc.
