Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus will be held every Fri
after the evening mass.
Saint Peters Basilica is built on the tomb of Peter, which literally serves as the
rock on which the church is built. Peter states his faith, acknowledging Jesus as
Messiah and Son of God, in the name of the other apostles. In reply, the Lord
reveals his intended mission for Peter: to become the visible foundation of the
Church.
This account also tells us that Peters act of faith did not come through flesh and 'You are the Christ,
blood, that is, through his human abilities, but through a particular revelation the Son of
from God. By contrast, right afterward, as Jesus foretells his passion, death, and the living God.'
resurrection, Peter began to rebuke him, denying that this would ever happen
(Matthew 16:22). Jesus scolds him in return.
Peter shows his human weakness and what he is: a stone along the path on
which men can stumble. In this scene, the drama of each soul and the history of
the papacy and Church itself are anticipated. There is the joint presence of divine
assistance by which the papacy constitutes the Churchs foundation throughout
history, and human weakness, which is also evident through the centuries and
can be transformed only through abandonment to Gods action
In todays Gospel, Jesus clearly promises the forces of evil will not prevail.
Prophets such as Jeremiah (1:1819) were threatened only by human enemies,
whereas Peter will have to be defended from a supernatural evil. Jeremiah
receives a promise that affects him as a person and his prophetic ministry; Peter
receives assurances concerning the future of the Church and the new community
founded by Christ upon this rock.

If you are a parishioner of Christ The King, you would have come across The Leaven as the identity and form of the churchs weekly
bulletin. The definition of leaven, simply put, is a substance, typically yeast that is added to dough or batter to make it ferment and
rise or an element, influence or agent that works subtly to lighten, enliven, or modify a whole, according to The American Heritage
Dictionary.
The symbolism of leaven was also referred many times in the Bible. In one context, leaven was cited in a parable by Jesus likening
the kingdom of heaven as leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal till it was all leavened (Matthew 13:33). On
another citation, leaven was referred to and depicted as corruption with a capability to influence the dough (1 Corinthians 5), (Matthew
16), (Luke 12:1).
Till this day, there have been numerous interpretations on the allegory of leaven, with contrasting concepts, with positive and negative
attachments. But we should be encouraged by faith and seek the grace and wisdom of God to ask internally how do we see ourselves
maturing with leaven as a body with the light of Christ. How do we hold on to each other, one with love and grace, to manage our
crosses?
