ONE KofC COUNCIL

My Brothers All,

Here we are in September, summer ending and our council

activity is picking up. After a productive July and August we have
completed all KofC filing requirements for the new year, completed the
Trustees Audit and chartered events for the next few months.

Thank you to all who attended the Installation of Officers, it

was great to share the Mass and then enjoy the ceremony. Special
thanks to Ralph Ferrara for a delicious repass dinner.

I would like to ask each member of our Council to think of us

In service all as One Council - #5814. We can sometimes think that we are alone
in our efforts or that the same people are doing everything. Not really
to one. true. There are many hands at work, from our Corporation Directors,
Committee Chairs, Council Officers and so on. Please talk to me if you
want to be more involved and help in the work of our Order.
In service
This month we also welcome 2 new Brothers to our Council:
to all. Vincent Nicotra and Andrew Terracciano both from St. Louis parish
and who attended their Admission Degree on August 10.

Enjoy the BEACON this month, the first edition completed by

our new Editor Bill Swiatkowski, thanks Bill. Our BEACON Newsletter
was judged in 2016-2017 by the Suffolk Chapter to be #1, the best
among 53 Council in Suffolk!

So read on and please plan to attend as many events as you

can, check the Upcoming Events on page 4 and mark your calendars.

Prayers for Peace and Reconciliation

Members of the Knights of Columbus and their families around the world are encour-
aged to pray for peace and reconciliation in their respective countries.
Supreme Knight Carl Anderson called for prayers for peace and reconciliation in his
Annual Report to the 135th Supreme Convention, August 1 in St. Louis. Citing the recent
increase in political violence, including the shooting of members of Congress last June on
a baseball field outside of Washington, D.C., he said:
Violence and the rhetoric of violence have no place as a style of politics in America or
any other country. ... I call upon all my brother Knights and their families to again seek the
intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace.
Quoting from the Holy Fathers message for the 50th World Day of Peace, Anderson

District Deputys Message

Brothers and Sisters,

Is it back to School time already? Wow, where did the summer go?

I have been busty visiting your Councils and conducting all of the Installation of Officer Ceremonies at all
of the Councils in the District, and will be wrapping all of that up before September is over. Its been great
being able to install all of the Officers in the Third District. It is the best thing about being a District Dep-
uty. It has also been my privilege to be invited to many of the Installations around the County, and I really
enjoy being able to see all of the other DDs perform the Ceremony as well. You get to see it from the
Councils side and really get a chance to listen to the words and appreciate them even more. We truly are
Blessed in Suffolk County, and in the Third District specifically, with some of the finest Officers that it is
my Honor to know.
Our District is conducting a Formation Degree on September 7 th at St. Jude in Rocky Point. If
you have not been able to get to a Formation Degree in the past year or so, please make an effort to do so.
Our District has one of, if not the best, Formation Degree Teams anywhere, and it is truly a wonderful ex-
perience. I hope to see you there to welcome in our New Second Degree Members. Jackets and ties are
required to attend. Thank you.
I would like to take a moment to congratulate all of the Outgoing Grand Knights from our District.
I am very Proud to say that every Council in our District, Patchogue, Queen of all Hearts, J.V. Kavanaugh, St. Jude and Our Lady of
the Pines all received the Columbian Award this past Columbian Year 2016-2017. The Columbian Award is given to Councils for
conducting outstanding Programs. Great work Brothers!
I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting. Please remember to always carry a Form 100 Membership Application
with you and sign up some new Members. It is your Moral Obligation to ask every Catholic man you know to become a Member.

Vivat Jesus-

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and

defender of the widow and orphan, you called
your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be
an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the
young to the generous service of their neighbor.
Through the example of his life and virtue may
we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely,
fulfilling his commandment of charity and build-
ing up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your
servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we
may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast.
We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Father Michael J.
McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will.
Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make
your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail
Mary, Glory be.
