About Ms. Daileg:

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am Ms. Daileg and I am happy
to welcome you and your student to a year full of fun and learning at La
Quinta High School! I have obtained my credentials from California State
University Fullerton, where I also obtained my degree of Bachelors of
Science in Biological Sciences. I have a great variety of fun and challeng-
ing lessons for your student to learn and enjoy!
I believe that every student should be able to learn and explore the
wonders of the world in a comfortable and safe learning environment.
I believe that teachers should guide the students to success, not only in a
particular class but also in life. As we journey through the semester
together, I will help your student see the wonders of the world, both
macroscopically and microscopically. I will teach them to think critically, La Quinta High School
be life-long learners, and be informed, functioning parts of society. Our

Grading Policy
Your grade will be based on a
variety of assessments that
includes exams, quizzes, labs,
short papers, projects and class-
work/homework.
NO EXTRA CREDIT is available.
Exams are important and will
make up 55%-60% of the unit
grade.
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F= 0-59%
All work assigned is crucial in
learning and practicing the
material. It is not busy work. So
please complete it!
Academic Dishonesty
Cheating and plagiarism is
unacceptable and is
NOT tolerated in this classroom.
Any assignment that shows
evidence of cheating and
plagiarism will receive a zero.
Appropriate disciplinary
measures will also be taken.
Course Description
This course is designed to cover many fascinating subjects within the exciting
scientific field of Biology. I hope that you will find it a fun and interesting class! We
will be studying and learning about basic chemistry, cell biology, genetics, evolution,
ecology, human physiology, and other topics. One goal of this course is to enrich
your life by providing you with a basic understanding of your body systems, and
the natural systems that make life on
this planet possible for each of us
every day. A second goal is to give
you the tools to prepare you so that
you can be successful in college and
life beyond high school.
Classroom Expectations
Come to class prepared to work. You must bring your biology notebook
with you everyday.
Be on time! When the bell rings, you should be in your assigned seat or
else you will be marked tardy.
Work quietly. Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
Respect each other, the classroom and the property in the classroom.
Food and drink should be eaten outside the classroom.
NO CELLPHONE OR ELECTRONIC DEVICE USE during class unless
instructed by the teacher.
Follow safety procedures when doing a lab.

Attendance
Attendance is very important in your success in the class!
There are a lot of fun and exciting things that happen in class. Some
assignments cannot be made up (especially labs) if you are absent
because of the lab equipment set up.
Did you know that missing two days of school per month
negatively affects your education and your likelihood to graduate?

Make Up Work/Late Work

Any assignments that need to be turned in will be collected at the beginning of
the period of the due date.
Late work will be accepted for half credit up to two days after the due date.
YOU are responsible for finding out any missing assignments! If you have an
excused absence, make-up work will be due, without penalty, within 2 days of
your return.

Students will be given verbal recognition of

discuss the issue with the teacher to resolve it.

Routines
Starting class
Class will start as soon as the bell rings. Students should be in
their seats, ready to go with their notebooks. They should be
reading the agenda on the board and writing it in their
planners.
If there is an assignment due that day, students should have it
ready to turn in. Each day will start with a warm up. So, the
students should be ready to write down their answers on
their sheet.
Ending class
Students should pack up their things, when the bell rings or
when the teacher allows them to do so. Everyone should
stay in their seat until the bell dismisses them.
Asking for help
Students are welcomed to approach the teacher and ask for
extra help after school or during lunch based on my
availability for the day. Students can also send me an email
regarding their questions or to set extra time aside for help.
During Instruction
Students should stay seated at all times, unless
instructed otherwise. Students should listen
attentively, copy notes down and participate in
class. Students can raise their hand if they want
to share a response or answer the question.
Moving About
Students will raise their hands if they need to get
up for any reason. Students will be given specific
instructions for getting into groups and grabbing
lab equipment during lab days.
Bathroom Breaks
Students will be given 3 bathroom passes per se-
mester. Students will need to write their name
on the back of their bathroom passes and hand it
to the teacher. Students MUST take the
bathroom pass with them on their way out.

Parents: Please read the course guide, sign this form, and give it to your son/daughter to return to me by Friday,
September 1, 2017. This is a graded assignment and must be returned by that date.
