About remote start, and stop device for:

Crude oil pump turbine

&

Ballast pump turbine

-0-
Remote start & stop (intentional) device
A. General

Thanks to new device start and stop of the turbine can be operated by a push button on the
control panel located in the cargo control room.
However initial start and additional procedure shall be done manually (see B-1 bellow)
This turbines operation includes the manual stop and start, remote and intentional stop &
restart (by use of a push button located on the control panel), and the emergency stop as
described on the general sketch below.

B. Operating method

In order to operate this turbine, you shall carefully read the Instruction handbook. Then
you will be able to maintain this machine at its top performance.

B-1. Preparation for utilization (or complementary process) [First part]

Before and after utilizing the turbine, you have to do the complementary manual process &
checks as described below:

-1-
Process & check methods
Process
Type of process & check
location Before utilisation After utilization

Operate pump. Check oil Stop if temperature of each bearing

1 Pump for oil priming M
pressure. decrease significantly

2 Turbine oil tank & Speed governor M Check oil level, refill if needed, and check liquid for impurities

3 Speed governor M Set to "minimum speed" the control button which is on the governor.

4 Mechanical trigger on the turbine M Engage (engaging button & de-engaging button)

5 Turbine speed C Set to minimum RPM before or after utilisation.

6 In & Out valves between cooling Entirely close if lubricant temperature

M Open entirely
water & luboil cooler has significantly decreased.

7 Every draining valves of the turbine Always entirely opened [Close entirely the drain cock by-pass valve after
M
steam system draining]

8 Exhaust valve M Open entirely. Close Entirely.

9 Exhaust steam condenser

M Operate. Stop.
(refrigerating water valve and so on.)

Open valve. Check steam Close entirely when the exhaust

10 Stop valve for steam gland M
pressure. pressure is stabilized.

11 Steam intake valve M Open entirely. Close Entirely.

12 Pump intake valve C Open entirely. Close Entirely.

13 Pump discharge valve C Close entirely before or after starting up.

14 Pump aerating valve C Open valve to release air (close entirely after aerating)

Note from the translator:

SOUPAPE = self-actuating valve VANNE = actuated valve

B-2. Operations for intentional stop (see Fig. 1 sequential diagram) [Second part]

i) One can stop intentionally the turbine while running, in other words, when its revolution
speed is above 350 RPM & the SD speed relay is set to ON (in circuit).

ii) When the above-mentioned conditions are fulfilled, the turbine can be intentionally
stopped by pressing the intentional stop push-button (BS-I) fitted on the cargo control
panel.

1) When push-button (BS-I) is pressed, then the relay (Zi) is magnetized and subsequently
the magnetic valve (MV-IS) is demagnetized & closes itself.
2) When magnetic valve (MV-IS) is closed, then the triggering servo-motor is turned on and
closes the throttle (regulator/governor) valve.
3) When the throttle (regulator/governor) valve closes, then the turbine speed decreases
and in the end it is stopped intentionally.
4) By the same time, the speed relay (SD) is in OFF position (switched off), and the (YS)
relay is demagnetized.
5) When the (YS) relay is demagnetized, the (Xi) relay is demagnetized and the coupling re-
start (T) timer is switched on.
6) Simultaneously, thanks to the magnetization of the (Xi) relay, the Intentional stop control
light (L4) is switched on.

-3-
B-3. Operations for re-starting (see Fig. 2 sequential diagram)

i) In order to re-start the turbine, the following conditions of inter-locking (start block) shall
be fulfilled:

1) The intentional stop shall be done according to the intentional stop sequence (Xi :
magnetized).
2) The re-start push-button shall be pushed within 30 minutes, what is the timers set point
(Tb : ON).
3) The speed governor air pressure shall be less than 0.25 Kg/cm2 (PS-SS : ON).
4) The 3-ways valve (CK-1) shall be set to REMOTE. (LS : ON) (L3: light on)

ii) When the above conditions are fulfilled, the turbine can be re-started by pressing the re-
start push-button (BS-R) fitted on the cargo control panel.

1) When the push-button (BS-R) is pressed, the (ZR) relay is magnetized, and right after that
the other relay (ZRX) is also magnetized.
2) When the (ZR) relay is magnetized, the magnetic valve (MV-GO) is also energized and
then opens.
3) The valve opening induces the starting up of the start-up air cylinder.
4) On the other side, when the (ZRX) relay is magnetized, the (Zi) relay is demagnetized.
5) When the (Zi) relay is demagnetized, the magnetic valve (MV-IS) is energized & opens.
6) When the valve opens, the triggering servo-motor goes back to normal state.
7) By the action of the start-up air cylinder & the return of the triggering servo-motor, the
throttle valve opens.
8) And when the throttle valve is open, the turbine resumes its revolution.
9) When the turbine speed reaches 350 RPM, the speed relay (SD) is switched on and the
(YS) relay is energized.
10) Unpress the re-start push-button (BS-R) when the speed reaches 350 RPM.
11) The relays (Xi & ZR) are demagnetized when the (YS) relay is energized.

-4-
12) By de-energizing the relay (ZR), the magnetic valve (MV-GO) is demagnetized and the
valve closes.
13) When the above sequences are finished, the operations for re-starting the turbine are
completed.

iii) If the re-start push-button (BS-R) is not within 30min (timers set point), the Intentional
stop control light (L4) is switched off by the re-start timer (T), and consequently the re-
start of the turbine becomes impossible.
