Progress report for Ms. Hesty Susanti

To whom it may concern,

With this letter I would like to provide a report on the study progress of Ms. Hesty Susanti.

Ms. Susanti is pursuing her Ph.D. studies in my institute. The Ph.D. research program of our
faculty does not have any compulsory courses but is guided on an individual basis by the supervis-
ing professor. Ms. Susanti arrived in Bochum in November 2011. The research topic assigned to
her is the mitigation of phase aberration artifacts and reverberations in medical ultrasound imag-
es.
In the months since the last report Mrs. Susanti first learned the basics of ultrasound imaging
and started to work with the available ultrasound systems in the laboratory. She became acquaint-
ed with the finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulation method in one dimension that may
be used for image reconstruction in her project. She also prepared a first test object (phantom) to
study phase aberration artifacts.

Mrs. Susanti is committed to her project and her studies show the expected progress.
