what is colum chromatography

Column chromatography is frequently used by organic chemists to purify liquids (and

solids.) An impure sample is loaded onto a column of adsorbent, such as silica gel
or alumina. An organic solvent or a mixture of solvents (the eluent) flows down
through the column. Components of the sample separate from each other by
partitioning between the stationary packing material (silica or alumina) and the
mobile eluent. Molecules with different polarity partition to different extents,
and therefore move through the column at different rates. The eluent is collected
in fractions. Fractions are typically analyzed by thin-layer chromatography to see
if separation of the components was successful.

Column Chromatography is another common and useful separation technique in organic

chemistry. This separation method involves the same principles as TLC, but can be
applied to
separate larger quantities than TLC. Column chromatography can be used on both a
large and
small scale. The applications of this technique are wide reaching and cross many
disciplines
including biology, biochemistry, microbiology and medicine. Many common antibiotics
are
purified by column chromatography.

In column chromatography, the stationary phase, a solid adsorbent, is placed in a

vertical glass (usually) column. The mobile phase, a liquid, is added to the top
and flows down through the column by either gravity or external pressure. Column
chromatography is generally used as a purification technique: it isolates desired
compounds from a mixture.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)'s Annual Poverty Survey (APIS) showed
that poverty incidence in the Philippines rose by 1.2 percentage points to 25.8
percent in the 1st semester of 2014. I found this news really disappointing because
as time passes by, the cure for poverty seems to be lost. Year by year, it's as if
there's no improvement in the Philippine society and I just can't help but think of
the reason behind this. Is it because of the growing population? The inattention of
the government? The lack of jobs in the Philippines? Everything seems to be
questionable because of this terrible news. With the said information above, I
guess as part of the middleclass society, it is best to give charity to the poor.
Giving alms and helping the poor is not something that would make laziness
prevalent in them, it is not something that would make the poor rely on the upper
society, as Christians, and as brothers and sisters of Christ, it is always best to
help the less fortunate. If we continue to think that helping the poor is condoning
the act of begging and sin of laziness, then this society will never be better.
Being selfish doesn't get anything anywhere.

Undeniably, it is at the nature of men to complain about the things around them.
Men tend to not appreciate the value of things because of their continuous
complaining so when I first started this challenge I knew it was not a piece of
cake. I started my challenge at exactly 6 am in the morning, I did this so I can
start my day right and fresh. At first, I was doing the challenge well however,
when my day became rough because of the dozen of things to be accomplished, I found
myself complaining but then I remembered the challenge and the essence of itto
appreciate what life throws you. With that, I gladly stopped complaining and tried
to make the best out of my day and truly, I must say, I'm glad to be part of the
challenge. I would definitely try this challenge again so I can be a better version
of myselfa person who's filled with so much enthusiasm and positivity.
