MY REACTION PAPER ON THE MEANING OF CRIME

Crime can have a very negative impact on local communities and society as a

whole, with areas of high crime becoming isolated. People may start to stereotype

individuals from areas of high crime, leading to social problems and a lack of

opportunities.

As what I can see in the Philippines, job losses led to many communities losing a

sense of identity and purpose, and crime levels in these areas often increased.

It is suggested that stealing is associated with desperation and a need for things

that cannot be gained by other means, regardless of the consequences. This 'nothing to

lose' attitude is dangerous, however, because it can create a lack of reason.

Once a person feels that stealing is acceptable, they may move on to more

serious crimes, bu this can have a negative impact on the rest of the community. When

crime levels increase, local businesses may choose to relocate, leading to a rise in the

area's unemployment rate. With a high level of unemployment and a high level of crime,

professionals who want to earn a higher income might then leave to find communities

where they feel safer. This, in turn, leads to a lack of successful role models in the area.
