SUPPORT SYSTEM (SDSS) FOR AGRICULTURAL ENVIRONMENT MONITORING
IN TARLAC COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE

The study focused on the development of GIS-based SDSS for Agricultural Environment
Monitoring that provides a computerized information system on the crop production of the
Tarlac College of Agriculture and digitized a soil map to provide the basic layer, assists strategic
and tactical decision making to characterize regions and locates high yielding and problematic
areas. Ensuring food security within a changing global climate, together with the growing
concern in reducing the environmental footprint of farming, while increasing the economic
viability of agricultural practices, has resulted in the last few decades in the development of
precision agriculture. The researcher intended to develop a GIS-based spatial decision support
system that provided greater convenience for the officials, faculty and non-teaching staff of the
Tarlac College of Agriculture and staffs of different agencies and organizations. The
development of the system was based on the functionalities that the staffs in-charge in the crop
production had supplied. The users validated the functionalities of the said system while the IT
experts validated its technical aspects on the development of the system, such as Database
Design and Security and Validation. On the development of the system, the staffs in charge in
crop production were considered since all of the functionalities depend on them. Every comment
the staff in-charge in crop production was verified and adopted. The functionalities revealed
were validated by the user. Based on IT experts, the system interface, functionalities, database
design and security were done accurately. Ease of use had been rated as very satisfactory since
the information assets of crop production were shown in a digitized map. Usability was rated as
very satisfactory since the system identified the specific area of production per commodity and
monitored the production of available resource through a graph. The system was very
satisfactory and reliable enough in generating the needed output and reports from the system.
