SHORT PROGRAMME IN UPGRADING AND REPAIRING PCs

DESCRIPTION
This programme is designed for learners who would like to learn more about the technical field of computers. This
programme will provide learners with information on PCs, hardware, installing and basic troubleshooting skills.
This programme is a wonderful introduction to computers and their components.

PC Upgrading

PROGRAMME OUTLINE
Personal computer background, PC components, features and system design
Microprocessor types, specifications, motherboards and buses
BIOS, Memory, IDE and SCSI interface
Storage principles
Physical Drive installation and configuration
Video hardware, and other I/O interfaces
Input devices, internet connectivity, local area networking
Hardware, building or upgrading systems
Troubleshooting hardware and operating system software
File systems recovery

TYPE OF PROGRAMME
Part-time
Damelin Short Programme*
Short programmes upgrade skills and knowledge to ensure success in a chosen field of learning, but are not credit
bearing.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge, comprehension and application of English and Mathematics at Grade 10 or equivalent
Relevant work experience would be an advantage

DURATION
The programme duration is 36 hours and tuition is face-to-face. Each Damelin campus has a different tuition
schedule. Programmes are offered during the week, in the evenings, or on Saturdays.

LEARNER MATERIAL
All text books are included in the tuition fees.

ASSESSMENT
Formative and summative assessments will assess all specific outcomes and adhere to all assessment criteria of
the learning programme.

On successful completion of the programme, the learner will receive a Damelin Short Programme in Upgrading and
Repairing PCs Certificate.
