What is community planning and development?

1. Community, is defined as, which members share the same physical space. The community
shown in the movie is in the most traditional sense. Members share relationships with physical
structures in the geographic region. It also consist of people who are united by a certain belief
or goal.

2. As what Ive seen from the movie, the question what makes a community can be explained as a
group is more than two people. No man is an island, and two people can be a partnership, but
needs at least three people to have community. And a common struggle unites individuals into
groups and creates a sense of urgency. The same stories help bond the group together over
time. Stories can be about anything related to the community. They can be negative, positive, or
descriptive. A community needs a leader. Yes, I know were living in a time where everyones
voice matters. Ive written before about Influential Following, about how its perfectly fine to be
a follower. But once you start building a community, you become a leader. A community needs
friends AND enemies. Its easy to see why friends are needed, but defined enemies create
cohesion among group members. You need a villain, a bad guy. The bad guy can be a person,
group, idea, or belief to balance it all out.. A community needs a long-term commitment. Make
sure you know what youre getting into when you start something up, and how long youre
willing to commit to it. A short-term commitment can produce a weak community, but a
stronger group needs time to grow. The natural cycles of growth and regression are hard to
shortcut. A community needs to actively solicit other members. A good community reaches out
to like-minded individuals and invites them to become part of something bigger than
themselves. There are other people who see the world the same way the other ones do.

3. The Office of Community Planning and Development (CPD) seeks to develop viable communities
by promoting integrated approaches that provide decent housing, a suitable living environment,
and expand economic opportunities for low and moderate income persons. The primary means
towards this end is the development of partnerships among all levels of government and the
private sector, including for-profit and non-profit organizations. CPD seeks to encourage
empowerment of local residents by helping to give them a voice in the future of their
neighborhoods; stimulate the creation of community based organizations; and enhance the
management skills of existing organizations so they can achieve greater production capacity.
Housing and community development are not viewed as separate programs, but rather as
among the myriad elements that make up a comprehensive vision of community development.
