Teaching Philosophy

My personal teaching philosophy will be based off my role

model life teachers growing up and that person is my mother.
Mrs. I.T Themba who is my mother and was my tenth grade
teacher, a woman who I will never forget and whose influence
made me chose the profession I am working towards today.
Like her, I want to stimulate my students into finding their own
strength and desires so they feel more successful not only in
school surroundings but also in a larger civil community
especially students who come from the townships. I want my
students to see me as a facilitator of learning rather than that
scary science teacher. As I have learnt this year in GSD
(General Subject Didactics) that students learn best when
comfortable and I will allow them. In fact encourage them, to
take risks without even judging their creativity.
One important tool in a teaching and learning process is 3
stimulation its very important to know that learning cannot
occur without stimulation and amount of genuine care for the
subject. Although probably the most difficult task. I am willing
to pay most attention to making my students care about what
they are learning. I believe experiences should extent into the
students real lives, hopefully by the end of my philosophy you
will have a better understanding of the importance of
educators in this world.
Personally I think teachers are very important in our society
because we need them to provide our youth with knowledge
and social experiences. As a teacher I hope to able influence
many lives and help students understand what education can
do for them and their future as it was influenced upon me by
other educators who I had the honor to be taught by them. I
striving to be the best and a specialist in my profession, and
what better way than giving my level best in what I do?

My experience in teaching practice

My student teaching experience has been the best, most

informational and inspiring experience. Generally I had a
great time with my students, and could not have asked for a
better report with my mentor teacher. I felt supported from
day one, and he gave me the confidence I needed to keep
progressing. Interacting with my students was fantastic, and
I was very surprised at how much students taught me, from
everything to relationships to school practices.
More specifically, there were three parts of my student
teaching experiences that stuck out to me as the most
important strength or wins : relationship, planning and
time management. Throughout the six weeks I was able to
create a really great atmosphere in my classrooms. I was a
little worried about a few of my classes early on, but as I got
to know the students better and establish relationships with
them, the problems mostly vanished. Once established those
connections and relationships with students, it was very
easy to tell that they bought into what I was teaching them
considerably more. They started to ask more questions, be
more interested in the topics and generally have fun with
learning. However my relationships with students were not
the only relationships that went well in the six months of
5
teaching practice. I would say that my relationship with the
staff at Eastdene combined school went very well.

Using technology as a learning tool, not just
the cool new thing

Teaching with technology can deepen student learning by

supporting instructional objectives. However, it can be
challenging to select the best tech tools while not losing
sight of your goals for student learning.
Technology helps, such as those in Google Apps, allows
students and instructors to share documents online,
edit them in real time and project them on a screen.

Presentation software (such as PowerPoint) enable

instructors to embed high-resolution photographs
diagrams, videos and sound files to augment text and
verbal lecture content.

Tablets can be linked to computers, projectors and the

cloud so that students and instructors can
communicate through text, drawings and diagrams\

Clickers and smartphones are a quick and easy way to

survey students during class. This is great for instant
polling, which can quickly assess students
understanding and help instructors adjust pace and
content. 7
Teaching and learning process.
Individual students may be better suited to learning in a
particular way, using distinctive modes of thinking, relating and
creating. The notion of students having particular learning
styles has implications for teaching strategies. Because
preferred modes of input output vary from one individual to
another, it is critical that teachers use a range of teaching
strategies to effectively meet the needs of individual learners.
Students should be given the opportunity for self-assessment
and be encouraged to evaluate their habits, attitudes, and
behaviors with respect to personal health and well-being. This
can be accomplished real-life. The school environment must be
supportive and non-threatening one in which both the students
and the teacher are comfortable. This is critical for the childs
cognitive, physical, social and emotional growth. Within the
classroom, teachers need to be sensitive to values which are
promoted by family, peers, and friends, religious and cultural

backgrounds. The climate of the classroom must be such that

students may speak openly while being assured of the
confidentiality, trust and respect of their classmates and
teacher.
