PLACE

The network was originally composed of eighteen La Salle educational institutions. Two De La Salle
Supervised Schools, Andres Soriano Memorial College located in Toledo, Cebu and John Bosco College
located in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur (both added in 2006), becoming the 17th and 18th La Salle Schools
respectively. In 2008, the De La Salle Professional Schools was re-integrated back to De La Salle
University. In 2012, De La Salle Canlubang was officially merged with De La Salle University to become
the De La Salle University Science and Technology Complex, bringing the number of La Salle educational
institutions in the Philippines down to sixteen.[4] The schools provide a diverse range of education
ranging from Basic Education up to Graduate Studies. It consists of five universities, six colleges (with
five providing basic education), four basic education granting schools, and two stand-alone high schools.

Office for Strategic

Communications
De La Salle University in Manila established the
Office for Strategic Communications
(STRATCOM) formerly known as Marketing
Communication Office (MCO) to formulate,
execute, and supervise the overall marketing and
imaging efforts of the institution. Through the use of available marketing public relation tools, the
STRATCOM will assist the University in improving the public's perception of the institution, positioning
the University as a world-class teaching and research institution, and eventually recruiting the brightest
high school graduates to enroll in our programs. STRATCOM's mandate is to improve the profile of
incoming freshmen, and to market aggressively the slow-moving programs.

Rationale
History

The Institutional Communication Office served as precursor of the Marketing Communication Office.
Established in the late 80s, the ICO was involved in University internal communications (i.e.
publications, calling card production, etc.) and public relations.

Recognizing the need to improve institutional image and student profile of DLSU, the Marketing
Communication Office (MCO) was formed in 1999 to formulate, execute, and supervise the marketing
and imaging efforts of the university. With its new positioning statement, The future begins here, MCO
spearheaded marketing and communication initiatives geared towards the improvement of the public's
perception of the institution.

Through the efforts of the office, the University improved the profile of students, helped stabilize
enrollment figures, increased media coverage and public awareness of University achievements and
developments, and further established DLSU as a leading teaching and research institution in the region.

Communication as Strategic Function

As the university continues to expand and spearhead programs for development in different fields of
endeavor, there is an ever-increasing need for initiatives to be properly communicated to the University's
various publics. The rapid development of communication technologies has also resulted in diverse
challenges and opportunities on how we connect with our various stakeholders. Communication
requirements have become as diverse, and thus communication has evolved from being a staff or support
function to being a line function of the University.

Considering that communication is a vital component in effective management and with MCO serving as
the operational arm of the Office of the President and Chancellor in the development and implementation
of communication strategies, it is advantageous for the University to engage MCO in the decision-making
process of the administration. The move is essential in ensuring that the information received by the
University's various audiences are correct, complete, and relevant to the attainment of specific strategic
objectives, as well as consistent with the over all vision/mission of the University.

With its engagement in policy-making, formulation of strategies, and implementation of integrated

marketing communication programs, a change of name is recommended to fit the realigned role of MCO.
It is proposed that MCO adopts the name Office for Strategic Communications (STRATCOM) starting
Academic Year 2010-2011. The renaming of the office is an appropriate acknowledgement of the
growing responsibility of the office in the University.

From a piece meal and project-based approach, the communication blueprint of the university evolves
into a long-term vision, trickling down, engaged with, and reflective of the strategies and objectives of
both the university and its discrete units. More than serving as a passive communicator of university
messages, the expanded engagement of STRATCOM is a pro-active tool by which shareholder perception
can be efficiently and effectively managed.

Vision-Mission
The Office for Strategic Communications (STRATCOM) of De La Salle University is established to
formulate, execute, and supervise the overall marketing and imaging efforts of the institution.
STRATCOM explores relevant communication processes and leverages technology to serve as a resource
of best communication practices and to raise awareness of the value of communication in the academic
setting. STRATCOM is an integral component in developing programs, initiatives, and strategies in
pursuit of the University's vision-mission.

Center for Engineering and Sustainable Development Research

About the Center

The Center for Engineering and Sustainable Development Research, or CESDR is
the research arm of the DLSU-Manila College of Engineering. It is mandated to
promote, catalyze and crystallize scientific activities in engineering sciences and
technology to achieve strategic advances in complex engineered systems and firm-
level technologies necessary for the sustainable development of the country.

Vision-Mission

CESDR is envisioned to become a Center of Excellence in engineering research

and technology innovations. It aims to make significant contributions to the
growing scientific knowledge in engineering and technology. It shall engage in
experimental research and modeling of industrial systems and development of
innovative processes and products that shall lead to utilization of sustainable
technologies. It shall facilitate the effective transfer of these technologies from the
academic research community to industry and society in the pursuit of sustainable
development.

Objectives

To provide an intellectually and culturally vibrant environment for

academics and students in which teaching and research in the engineering
field can proceed as effectively and efficiently as possible.

To enhance the productivity of faculty members and students in the different

Centers of Excellence by carrying out research and development for the
implementation of practical and effective solutions for the industry and
society.

To contribute to the economic and social development of the nation by

promoting sustainable technology.

To provide the training ground for future engineering scientists and

researchers of participating departments through education, research and
publication.

To gain international recognition in the scientific community.

To strengthen close collaboration with the industry, government and other

stakeholders including the civil society.
