Our guests often describe their time at Wakatobi in superlatives and glowing terms. No
description or photo can fully capture the adventure and magic that is Wakatobi. But you can
enjoy a tantalizing taste of what awaits by joining us for a virtual slice of life at the resort. So
relax, follow along and let your mind wander while we help you visualize one perfect day at
Wakatobi.
Barefoot beginnings
Sunrise greets you on the deck of your waterfront Villa. Breakfast arrives as your significant
other joins you, and the aroma of coffee and fresh baked goods lures your best friends from
the Villas second bedroom. Soon, the four of you are enjoying a savory and scenic start to
the day. The meal includes fresh fruit and traditional western favorites, but you decide to be a
bit more adventurous, and dig into an Indonesian rice noodle and egg stir-fry accompanied by
shrimp krupuk.
Many guests enjoy having breakfast delivered to their villa or bungalow for a scenic and
relaxing start to the day. Photo by Walt Stearns
Equally inviting as breakfast on your deck or patio are morning strolls along Wakatobis
beach. Photo by Didi Lotze
After packing day bags, your group walks down the beach to the dive center at the
Longhouse. Here, you get some final pointers on the Cannon 5D Mark III / Seacam housing
package that is a complimentary addition to your villa booking. With this high-end camera
system and the help of your private dive guide, whose services are also included with the
villa package, you hope to take your underwater imaging to a new level. Your groups dive
gear is already loaded aboard the Wakatobi I. The four of you will have this spacious vessel
all to yourselves, with captain, crew and dive guide on the ready to go whenever and
wherever you desire.

Diving Blade
With a private dive boat at your disposal, and a full day ahead, this is a perfect opportunity to
visit one of the most storied sites in the Wakatobi region. The boat ride to the underwater
formation known as Blade takes a bit longer, but time passes quickly as you glide over
iridescent blue waters. Conditions look perfect for wide-angle images. Soon, you are giant
striding overboard and following your guide toward the crest of a tall, thin seamount that
rises close to the surface. Your group drops down one side of this coral-encrusted rampart,
but you stay shallow and tilt your camera lens downward. The viewfinder shows both sides of
this slim formation, with the divers creating a visual frame of reference that puts the
magnitude of this unique formation into perspective.
Magnificas wall leads to a small sandy bay, and beautiful soft coral gardens, with a plethora
of macro subjects along the way. A small central ridge is covered in sea whips, fans, soft
corals and sponges. Photo by Norbert Probst
Drifting down the face of the reef at a depth of 80 feet, you are glad you stuck with the wide
lens. Schools of snappers, skip jacks and barracudas flow by, and the early afternoon sun
strikes the face of the reef directly, illuminating its intricate details. Later, when you ascend
towards the sun-lit shallows, you capture swirling flurries of anthias atop groves of table
corals. Luck is with you, and just as you run across a pair of mating cuttlefish, your
significant other swims into view. With calculated stealth, you set up for a shot youve
always wanted to master: a close-focus wide angle masterpiece that puts the cuttlefish in the
foreground, with a diver framed just behind, and the reef scape stretching off into infinity.
Mid afternoon once again finds you rested and ready for yet another dive. This time, you will
focus on the small stuff, and there are few sites better for this like Waitii Ridge. A leisurely
drift brings you to a seamount covered in staghorn and potato corals. This is a target-rich
environment for your macro pursuits. Saron shrimp, mantis shrimp, banded pipefish, leaf
fish, stonefish and other species that would be considered rare at most sites are found here
regularly. Profusions of anthias and damselfish dance among the corals, and you discover a
banded sea snakes foraging in a shadowed recess.
An evening to remember
Its late afternoon when you step back aboard, and youve logged more than four hours of
bottom time today. After a freshwater rinse, a clean towel and a refreshing snack, you put a
question to the group: want to do one more? The answer is an enthusiastic yes, and as the
sun sinks toward the horizon, the boat is moved a short distance to the site known as Dunia
Baru. Here, shallow depths and typically mild or non-existent currents create ideal conditions
for night diving. Your group takes the plunge just after sunset, the beams of their dive lights
cutting across the gathering darkness like underwater light sabers. It doesnt take long to meet
some of the local residents. Snake eels are out and about, and your light glints off the
incandescent eyes of a mantis shrimp, out from its borrow and on the prowl. A stationary
crocodilefish ignores, even when you get close enough to capture the details of its intricate
eye lappets. Other prizes that appear out of the darkness include a Spanish dancer, several flat
worms and a collection of saron shrimp.
Dunia Barus mild conditions make for some great night dives and opportunities to capture
images of the local residents such as this crocodilefish. Photo by Steve Miller
Its full dark when you surface, but the ride back to the resort is short. No need to fuss with
the dive gear, as the crew will have it rinsed and ready for you again tomorrow. Its tempting
to head to the media center and begin downloading todays amazing images, but that can
wait. Instead, you stroll back to the villa for a relaxing session in the Asian spa-style shower.
By the time you are dry, the resort staff has prepared the table for dinner on the deck. Seated
next to the water, refreshed by a soft sea breeze, you raise a glass and toast to what will
surely be remembered as one of the best days of your life.
Dinner at your villa or bungalow, or perhaps on the beach, can be the perfect way to end a
perfect day at Wakatobi. Photo by Marco Fierli
We hope you have enjoyed this break from the everyday. For some, its been a pleasant recap
of visits past; for others, a tantalizing hint of what awaits. For all of us, its a reminder of
what a special place Wakatobi is, and we hope you will join us there soon to turn your dream
days into reality.

New additions and private dive services make a stay at Wakatobis Villas better than ever
Cloistered at the far end of the beach, the Wakatobi Villas provide guests with an extra
degree of privacy and spaciousness, along with magnificent waterfront views and additional
personalized services. For Mike and Gina Leisten, a stay at Villa One proved to be the perfect
setting for a very special occasion.

The perfect choice for a special occasion
I am sitting on the porch of this exact Villa as I read this post! We fly back to Bali
tomorrow, then onto home from there. Wakatobi has been the best vacation we have ever
had. This was the comment Gina Leisten was inspired to add to a facebook post as she sat
enjoying the sunset on the last evening of her December vacation. The post she was reading
was from Wakatobi dive resort, and it showed a view from the very same villa where she and
Mike, her husband of 25 years, were staying.
We wanted our anniversary trip to be memorable and several members of our diving group
had already chosen Wakatobi, so it was the perfect way to combine the anniversary
celebration and a dive trip with good friends. Mike Leistein
The couple had come to Wakatobi in the company of friends to celebrate their 25th wedding
anniversary. The group had first enjoyed a cruise on Pelagian dive yacht, followed by ten
days at the resort. We made an excellent choice of Wakatobi for this special occasion. We
wanted our anniversary trip to be memorable and several members of our diving group had
already chosen Wakatobi, so it was the perfect way to combine the anniversary celebration
and a dive trip with good friends, Gina said. While this destination was a long way from
home for us, it was worth it; we also upgraded to the master suite on the yacht and one of the
villas with a swimming pool. Now Im afraid were ruined for any other vacation, nowhere
else will compare!

morning coffee or evening libations. Many guests op to have breakfast or other meals served
on the deck. Photo by Didi Lotze
The waterfront views from rooms and porches are reason enough for many guests to opt for
one of Wakatobis premium villas. But they have additional incentives to choose these
spacious, secluded accommodations. Villa stays also include the complementary services of a
Private Dive / Snorkel Experience Manager (PDEM). These skilled guides are the
cornerstone of the resorts private diving program, and their goal is to provide the ultimate in
personalized resort dive experiences. Soon after checking into a villa, guests have a chance to
get to know their private snorkel/dive experience manager. Having a private dive guide was
a great advantage, in particular because we wanted to film certain tough to find critters. We
also truly had a lot of fun with Komang! said Gina.
This is just the beginning, as the PDEM will be there on every dive to act as a private
assistant and guide, help with equipment or cameras if need be, and provide an appropriate
level of guidance for those who may need help with buoyancy control or underwater
navigation. In addition, PDEMs serve as a dive buddy and spotter for more accomplished
divers and photographers. The guides know every detail of the reef, and are experts at finding
and pointing out the numerous small and rare creatures that make their home in Wakatobis
waters. This was an important feature for the Leistens and friends: With our group of 15,
we felt we had plenty of dive guides. Paula, Sonia, Dollar, Bowo, Jacob, Koman, Ismael,
Misu, and Gregor were all wonderful. We had so much fun with all of them, said Mike.
Before diving or snorkeling begins, guests and private guide get together, enjoy a cool drink
and discuss everything from personal comfort and experience levels to snorkeling or diving
goals and any special itineraries or expectations the guest has. Based on this conversation, the
manager will create a custom itinerary. Photo by Didi Lotze

Wakatobis reefs. Photo by Walt Stearns
Some of the rarest finds include Wakatobis darlings, pygmy seahorses. With the help of
their guide the Leistens found a pregnant male and were able to obtain video of it. Photo by
Richard Smith
As far as having a private guide, Komang had a great eye for spotting pygmies and other
treasures on the reefs, and we felt we got the best experience because of this, said Gina. We
even got photos of a pregnant male pygmy seahorse, and one of our pictures has two
seahorses. Mike got video of the pregnant male moving from branch to branch, and it looks
surreal. We will never, ever, forget this experience.
Other complementary upgrades provided with a Villa stay, which guests can opt for, include
the opportunity to use a professional-level Cannon camera and Seacam housing system for
two dives, or to enjoy a complimentary Fluo dive or Fluo snorkel. This unique form of night
diving uses special underwater lights and mask filters to reveal the hidden fluorescent
qualities of corals and fish life. To participate in the fluo program, guests must have
appropriate night diving skills.
Complementary private guide service isnt the only added value for guests in the villas.
Interiors have been updated with decor that maintains an emphasis on the native woods and
rock of the structures. In addition, the plunge pools located on the seaside decks of Villas one
and two have been enhanced and enlarged.
We hosted a party by the pool for our entire dive group of 15, plus all of the dive guides,
said Mike.
Because of the resorts perch on a low rock ledge that lies just to the north of the beach,
taking a dip is as easy as walking down a short set of private steps to immerse in the clear
water. The villas large decks and porches are favorite places to enjoy morning coffee, or take
in a magnificent sunset, while additional indoor and outdoor seating areas can turn villas into
centers for social gatherings. This is particularly true for Villa One, as Mike and Gina can
attest. We hosted a party at our villa by the pool, Mike said. We invited our entire dive
group of 15, and all of our dive guides. We wanted to show our appreciation for all of their
patience, and hard work. All of these dive guides had the perfect amount of professionalism,
marine intelligence, fun spiritedness, and great customer service, he said. The large deck and
pool at Villa One provides ample space for socializing. The Leistens also appreciated the
vistas and the spaciousness of their villa. The view as you walk through the front gate is
absolutely stunning, we admired it daily and the deck offered both shade and sun. Of course
the pool was a wonderful respite for relaxation after diving and snorkeling, said Gina.
The Leistens and friends enjoyed many a sunset while relaxing in the pool at Villa One.

Tiup regulator sekencang mungkin hingga airnya keluar. Lalu, bernapas sewajarnya untuk melihat
apakah masih ada air yang tersisa. Lakukan terus hingga regulator steril dari air.
Regulator retrieval/recovery. Ketika menyelam, ada kemungkinan mouthpiece akan terlepas karena
beberapa hal, misalnya terkena kaki teman. Jangan panik!
Lalu,
berhentilah di safety stop, yaitu di kedalaman 5m selama 3-5 menit. Pastikan keadaan di permukaan
aman sebelum kembali melanjutkan berenang.
No matter which side you venture on the dive site Blade youre on a wall, as this pinnacle is
reminiscent of the Great Wall of China, but far taller. Photo by Walt Stearns
Dropping down onto the outer face of the seamount, you find more wide-angle opportunities,
as the near-vertical slope is covered in a tangled profusion of red whip corals and sea fans,
some growing to spans of six feet or more. Moving deeper, you encounter a collection of
large, photo-worthy barrel sponges. At a depth of 60 feet, the far end of the formation meets a
connecting ridge. A mild current pushes you along, and soon you encounter a second
seamount rising from the ridge, running parallel to the first, and equally tall and thin. From
pre-dive briefings, you know there are three more of these formations on the ridge, creating a
profile that resembles the serrated blade of a giant knife.
At a resort thats known for fine dining, you expect more than cold sandwiches for a mid-day
meal, and you are certainly not disappointed.
Back on board, you come to the unanimous conclusion that one dive at Blade is not enough.
On the second dive, you spend more time exploring the middle depths of each formation, and
discover an intricate network of ledges and pockets. By the time your air gauges are edging
towards reserve, its time for a well-earned lunch. At a resort thats known for fine dining,
you expect more than cold sandwiches for a mid-day meal, and you are certainly not
disappointed. An appetizer of fresh tuna is followed by a hearty curry, and finished with
fresh-baked treats.
Private boats include meals and snacks freshly prepared by Wakatobis chefs. Theres plenty
of room on the boats to enjoy the spread. Of course, special requests or requirements are
welcome. Photo by Walt Stearns
Afternoon delights
The day is only half over, and you dive computers show plenty of bottom time remaining.
The captain heads for the expansive Sawa reef system, and the site known as Magnifica. You
consider switching to a macro lens, but decide the small stuff can wait. This time, a giant
stride lands you adjacent to a small, stony plateau perched on a jutting corner of the reef wall.
From depths of less than ten feet, the terrain drops steeply away to depths of more than 200
feet.
