-SYNOPSIS-

As an overview, R.A 6713 otherwise known as: Code of conduct and ethical standards for
Public Officials and Employees. The law aims on upholding time honoured principle of public
office being a public trust, grants incentives and rewards for exemplary service, enumerates
prohibited acts, transactions, and provides penalties for violations thereof.

Sections 4 of this law are the norms of conduct of public officials and employees which are:

a) Commitment to public interest

b) Professionalism
c) Justness and sincerity
d) Political Neutrality
e) Responsiveness to the public
f) Nationalism and patriotism
g) Commitment to democracy
h) Simple living.

Commitment to public interest is defined public officials and employees shall always uphold
the public interest over and above personal interest. All government resources and powers of
their respective offices must be employed and used efficiently, effectively, honestly and
economically, particularly to avoid wastage in public funds and revenues.

Our group was asked to play a scenario relating to commitment to public interest. The first
scenario is a regular session by the Barangay council. The session included the presentation of
proposed plans and program such as Dengue Prevention Month to be conducted for the benefit
of its residents. After the presentation of the program, the council decided on how to allocate the
budgets for the coming event. After the session, the chairman showed the trait of conserving
energy effectively.

Commitment to public interest can be shown in many ways. As a student, we should turn off the
lights when we leave the classroom, avoid vandalizing the schools utilities, and engaging on
groups that advocate the development of the university.

As a future public servant, utilize the offices supply effectively such as bondpapers, ink, printers
and electricity. Commitment to public interest in the public office can also be shown through
providing adeaquate services to the clients despite of its socio-economic state.

Commitment to public interest is a norm which is important when we enter public office, to
serve as a good role model among others and also promote clients satisfaction to our services in
the public sector.
