Detachable/Adjustable Armchair: Ergonomically-designed for both

Right-handed and Left-handed Students in Polytechnic University

of the Philippines College of Engineering and Architecture
A right-biased tablet arm desk does not offer left-handed students the same arm
support that right-handed students enjoy. A left-hander who writes with an inverted or
"hooked" (bent wrist) style at a narrow desk must twist around in a contorted posture that
is awkward and uncomfortable. However, the left-handers are the odd. Lefties make up
about 10 percent of the population so making specialized chairs for them would not be so
economical. Our team aims to research the effects of normal armchairs to left handers and
design a detachable or adjustable chair that could be usable to both parties.

Ergonomically-designed Manual as Guidelines for Security

Guards

We are aiming to create an ergonomically-designed manual as guidelines for security

guards in PUP. This will contain information and measurements that they need to know of.
Some information in it will be helpful to them especially to their health and well-being.
This will also help them do their job effectively.

Incorporating Ergonomics and Human Factors into Train

Design
This research aims to create a requirement for comfort needs to be considered in light
of the intensive usage of wear and tear that comes with high passenger numbers.
Accordingly, the design of the train is of critical importance, particularly in the light of the
long-life spans of the trains which is typically between 25 and 40 years.

Texting on Mobile Phones and Musculoskeletal Disorders in

Young Adults
The aim was to examine whether texting on a mobile phone is a risk factor for
musculoskeletal disorders in the neck and upper extremities in a population of young adults.

Human Factors Systems Approach to Healthcare Quality and

Patient Safety
Human factors systems approaches are critical for improving healthcare quality and
patient safety. The SEIPS (Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety) model of
work system and patient safety is a human factors systems approach that has been
successfully applied in healthcare research and practice. Several research and practical
applications of the SEIPS model are described. Important implications of the SEIPS model
for healthcare system and process redesign are highlighted. Principles for redesigning
healthcare systems using the SEIPS model are described. Balancing the work system and
encouraging the active and adaptive role of workers are key principles for improving
healthcare quality and patient safety.

Designing an Ergonomic Bicycle Setup for Children Based on

Anthropometrics and Comfort

Bicycling is a popular activity for children. In order for children to enjoy cycling and
to minimize injury, it is important that they are positioned appropriately on the bicycle. The
purpose of this study was therefore to identify a suitable bicycle setup for children aged
between 7 and 16 years which accommodates developmental differences in
anthropometrics, flexibility and perceptions of comfort.
