Accountant: The Qualification, Responsibilities, and Duties inside a Company

The accounting field is a hard place to work since it involves critical thinking processes which helps
regulate the brains activity. There are certain qualifications for accounting prospects to pass the
program on their own chosen universities and colleges. Fresh graduates of accountancy from different
universities undergo board exams to certify their status as Certified Public Accountants. After passing
the exams, they oath-take to certify their integrity and objectivity towards their field of work, in which
they must fulfill their duties and responsibilities of being an accountant. As an accounting officer,
fulfilling of what is stated would be helpful in living the values of a Certified Public Accountant.

Based on Michigan Department of Civil Service, it requires several qualifications for a person to be
qualified for an accountant job, they need to possess important knowledge about accounting and
bookkeeping terminology and practices, automated accounting systems, spreadsheets of database
software, general record keeping and filing systems and basic mathematics, and they also need to
possess abilities like being able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide mathematical figures, compare
data from variety of sources for accuracy and completeness, detect errors, understand and apply
current accounting guidelines, system updates and revisions and policy changes, ability to follow, apply,
interpret and explain instructions and/or guidelines, determine work priorities, make decisions and take
appropriate actions, meet schedules and deadlines of the work area, communicate effectively, compose
routine correspondence and reports, type, and the ability to operate standard office equipment.

Accountants acquired several duties to fulfill though their duties varies from their hold position. The
typical job duties of accountants are: they need to process payments and documents, calculate rates
paid for purchases and all price extensions, verify items billed against items ordered and received and
reconciles differences through follow up with the vendor and other employees, enter, update and
retrieve accounting data from automated systems, post financial data to appropriate accounts in an
automated accounting system, review on line transactions for charges and accuracy and corrects errors,
retrieve system records, assign code to data, disburses funds using manual or local warrants or petty
cash and makes change according to specific instructions, endorse warrants or money orders, prepare
account deposit ticket and deposit money as directed, files and removes records and reports, operate
standard office equipment, and perform related work as assigned.

As stated by Henderson, an accounting officer must be responsible for the execution of the
procurement process in the public entity specifically in financial reports wherein an accounting officer
must review business financial reports to ensure accuracy. It involves receipts, ledgers, and purchase
orders. The role's and main responsibilities of an accounting officer must ensure that all due dates, cash,
purchases, and payments are strictly accurate.
