2 Safety information

PELV circuits
The signal voltage and the control voltage of the devices are <30Vdc and have to be
carried out as PELV circuits. In this range the specification as PELV system, according
to IEC 60364-4-41 contains a protective measure against direct and indirect contact
with dangerous voltage through a implemented safe separation in the system/machine
of the primary and the secondary side. We recommend to design the system/machine
with a safe separation (PELV Protective-Extra-Low-Voltage).

DANGER
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK BY INADEQUATE PROTECTIVE SEPARATION
Only connect devices, electrical components or lines to the signal voltage con
nectors of these components that feature a sufficient, protective separation from
the connected circuits in accordance with the standards (EN 50178: 1997 - Elec
tronic equipment for use in power installations - Section 5.2.14.2).
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.
Achieve a safe separation in the entire process of the electric circuit.
To protect from direct contact, always cover connections and contacts which guide
FELV (Functional Extra Low Voltage) voltages.
Avoid using FELV current circuits for safety reasons.
Design the cover or device connection so that it can only be removed by using a
tool.
The protection measures have to be followed on all connected devices.

6 Installation and maintenance

For warranty reasons, we recommend that you employ Schneider Electric personnel
for initial start-up. The Schneider Electric personnel
will check the equipment,
determine the optimal configuration
and instruct the operating staff.
Proceed with care during the following steps and take all precautions described
in order to help to avoid the following points:
Injuries and material damage
Incorrect installation and programming of components
the incorrect operation of components
The use of non-authorized cables or modified components

6.1 Commissioning

DANGER
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH
Observe the general construction and safety regulations for working on high-
current electrical systems.
Operate electrical components only with a connected protective conductor.
After the installation, verify the fixed connection of the protective conductor to all
electrical devices to ensure that connection complies with the connection dia
gram.
Before enabling the device, safely cover the live components to prevent contact.
Do not touch the electrical connection points of the components when the unit is
switched on. First shut down drives because potentially fatal voltage can occur
on the motor lines in generator operation.
Provide protection against indirect contact (EN 50178:1997, Section 5.3.2).
Disconnect/plug in Plug-in connectors of the cables and plug-in terminals on the
device only when the system is disconnected from the power supply.
Isolate the unused conductors on both ends of the motor cable because AC vol
tages in the motor cable can couple to unused conductors.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.
Pay attention to the ESD protection measures, to avoid damages caused by elec
trostatic discharge.

NOTICE
ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE
Do not touch any of the electrical connections or components.
Prevent electrostatic charges; e.g., by wearing appropriate clothing.
If necessary at all, touch circuit boards only on the edges.
Move the circuit boards as little as possible, to avoid the formation of elec
trostatic charge caused by clothing, carpet, or furnishings.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.

Schneider Electric PacDrive SCL-055 21

6 Installation and maintenance

6.1.1 The PacDrive SCL-055 with the "positive pressure" option

Operating a PacDrive SCL-055 in the aseptic area demands high requirements for
protection against leaking fluids. The implementation of housing parts and screwed
cable glands in compliance with IP67 is not adequate in many cases because this
protection type only ensures that when immersing for minimum 30 minutes, no dam
aging quantity of water penetrates into the device.
However, in practice, various fluids with creeping properties different from water are
used. In addition, during the IP protection type test, it is not considered that there is
high pressure in the housing due to the drive heating and low pressure during cooling,
which favors the penetration of liquids.
Sealing air Continuous protection against the penetration of liquids and gases is achieved when
the housing is held under a slight overpressure with positive pressure. The com
pressed air must be dry and free of dust and oil. The air consumption is negligible since
the system is closed.
Properties Value Comment
Pressure 0.1...0.2 bar recommended
Pressure 0.4 bar Max.
Operating conditions Dust-free using suitable micro filters
Operating conditions Oil-free using appropriate oil separators

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or serious injury.
Check data against type plates.
Observe requirements for the installation location.
Observe requirements for the degree of protection and the EMC rules.
Then install PacDrive SCL-055.
High leakage current

DANGER
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH
Connect devices with leakage current greater than 3.5 mA AC via a fixed con
nection with the power supply network.
In addition, implement one of the measures according to EN 50178:1997, Section
5.3.2.1.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.

6.1.3 Setting the SERCOS address

Remove the protective cap from the sercos address switch on the SCL.
Using an appropriate tool, on the back of drive, set the specified sercos address
(0-99) of the node according to the machine diagram.
Be extremely careful not to assign an address more than once in a sercos loop. Each
drive must have its own unique sercos address.
Tighten dust cap (1Nm).
6.1.4 Slaves in sercos loop

Sequence of the servcos slaves

All the slaves in the sercos loop are connected with each other via the distribution box
PacDrive PD-8. But the physical sequence of sercos slaves in the loop is the other
way around, just like the numbering of the cable glands on the PacDrive PD-8. For
example, if you have a PacDrive Controller MAx-4, one PacDrive PS-4 and four
SCL-055 motors, then the counting is as follows:
Alltogether you get six slaves.

Changing the number of slaves in the sercos loop

If the number of sercos slaves change, you must carry out the termination as described
for the PacDrive SCL-055 according to the chapter Commissioning.

NOTICE
During commissioning, if certain circumstances result in a temporary change in the number
of slaves you do not have to remove all the cabled PacDrive SCL-055 again. Proceed as in
the example below.

Example 24 SCL-055 motors are running on your system (already fully cabled). For test pur
poses, you want to reduce the number of slaves to 10 motors.
Proceed as follows:
Remove the plug of the 11th sercos connection (this corresponds to the connec
tion (3) of the second PacDrive PD-8 box). This ensures that the physical con
nection to the subsequent sercos slaves is separated.
Terminate the 10th SCL-055 motor by inserting the jumper.
Remove the plug of the sercos connection from the SERCOS port that leads to
the subsequent PacDrive PD-8 box.
Now you have reduced the sercos loop to 10 motors.

NOTICE
It is not enough to place the jumpers on the desired terminations; no slave can be connected
on the following sercos slot.

Connect the power supply plug.

Insert the sercos connection plug into the sercos.
If another SCL-055 is connected, repeat steps under "Connect to electricity" until
all drives are connected as described.
If no other SCL-055 is connected, terminate the connection by inserting the two
jumpers onto the plug-in bridge.

NOTICE
The two jumpers (for termination) must be plugged in to the "closed" position at the last
PacDrive SCL-055 port via the sercos connecting plug, even if several PD-8 are used. This
closes the sercos loop, also see the chapter Technical Data.

Information on the PacDrive PD-8 connection to the PacDrive PS-4 is available in the
operating manual for "PacDrive PS-4 and PacDrive PD-8".

CAUTION
OBSERVE BENDING RADIUS FOR SCL HYBRID CABLES
For fixed installed cables, do not exceed a bending radius of 5 times the cable
diameter.
For flexible cables, do not exceed a bending radius of 12 times the cable diam
eter.
Cable damage

Toolkit EPAS-4. The system is configured and programmed in EPAS-4 according to
IEC 61131-3.

NOTICE
IMPROPER PROGRAM CHANGES
Program changes may only be carried out by trained personnel with detailed
knowledge of the system.
Program changes may only be carried out by your machine supplier or Schneider
Electric employees.
Schneider Electric is not liable for damages caused by unauthorized program
changes.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.

26 PacDrive SCL-055 Schneider Electric

6.3 Electromagnetic compatibility, EMC

6.3 Electromagnetic compatibility, EMC

To control and regulate the motors, the mains voltage is stored by rectification in the
DC bus of the servo amplifier. This stored power is supplied to the motor by precise
on and off switching using six semi-conductor switches. The steep increase/decrease
in voltage places considerable demands on the dielectric strength of the motor winding.
An important additional aspect to observe is the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
with other system components. The high rate of change of the clocked voltage gen
erates harmonics of great intensity up into the high frequency range.

NOTICE
SYSTEM FAILURE DUE TO ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS
During installation, select the grounding option with the lowest resistance for high
frequency operation (e.g. unpainted sub plate in control cabinet).
Provide the largest possible contact surface area (skin effect).
If necessary, remove existing layers (paint) to establish electrical contact.
Lay the grounding in a star configuration from the Central Grounding Point to the
corresponding connections.
Avoid looping the grounding to prevent unnecessary influences.
Use shielded cable only.
Ensure large shielding transitions.
Do not connect shields via the PIN contacts of connectors.
Observe the circuit suggestions.
Shorten motor cable to minimum length.
Avoid laying cable loops in the control cabinet.
In conjunction with electronic controllers, do not switch inductive loads without
suitable interference suppression.
Provide suitable interference suppression. To this end, use recovery diodes for
direct current operation and protector type-based, industry-standard quenching
circuits during alternating current activity.
Arrange the interference suppression immediately at the point of inductivity, as
otherwise even more interference may be generated by the shock of the switch
ing current on the interference suppression lines.
Avoid sources of interference instead of eliminating the effects of existing inter
ference.
Do not arrange contacts with unsuppressed inductive loads in the same room as
the PacDrive SCL-055. The same applies for connection lines that do not lead
suppressed, switched inductances and lines that run parallel to them.
Isolate the controller from such interference sources using a Faraday cage (sep
arately partitioned control cabinet).
Mains filters and motor filters may by used depending on the combination of the
servo amplifier/motor and the cable length.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.

6 Installation and maintenance

6.4 Maintenance, repair, cleaning

6.4.1 Repair

Quick detection and correction of faults during machine downtime help keep produc
tion downtime to a minimum.
The diagnostic messages of the PacDrive system, which can be queried using the
Automation Toolkit EPAS, allow specific and effective fault location.
In the event of a breakdown it is possible to smoothly replace defective components
to guarantee that the fault is quickly eliminated and operation can be resumed. These
jobs may only be carried out by qualified maintenance personnel.

6.4.2 Cleaning

It is not possible to test in advance, all materials of the Schneider Electric product range
that are used presently and in the future on the compatibility with the cleaning agents
available on the market.

NOTICE
DAMAGE CAUSED BY CLEANING AGENTS
Before using a cleaning agent, carry out a compatibility test in relation to the
cleaning agent and the component affected.
Do not use alkaline detergent, as polycarbonates can lose their stability if you
come into contact with them.
Do not use any chloride-containing cleaning agents as these corrode the stain
less steel and in particular the welds, and thus reduce the strength of the me
chanics.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.

For more information on the material properties of your component (see 7.2 Mechan
ical and electrical data).
The standard cooling method of the motor is by natural convection. Therefore, keep
the motor surfaces free from dirt.

NOTICE
IMPROPER CLEANING
Liquids can penetrate into the PacDrive SCL-055 by improper cleaning!
Use cleaning processes appropriate to the degree of protection of the PacDrive
SCL-055.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.
