LESSON PLAN: TRAVELLING

1. Learners description: Elementary adult learners


2. Lesson objectives: By the end of the class, students are able to:

- Produce a postcard on a memorable trip

- Practice reading skills: extracting details

- Practice speaking skills

3. Duration: 90 mins

Lesson stages Activities Time


Warm- up Guessing game 5 mins
- T divides the class into 2 teams. T shows pictures of famous tourist spots
in the world and Ss have to guess where they are.The faster team to give
correct answer will get 1 point for each picture.
- The team which gets the most point will be the winner.
Cycle 1 - Reading 20 mins
Pre-reading T teaches key words: celebrate, top, capsule, room, in advance, limited, 5 mins
available
Reading T divides the class into 3 groups. Each group has one part of the reading 10 mins
text. Each group have to send (3 or more) members to other groups to
collect missing information to complete the reading questions and write
their answers on the board.
Post-reading Ways to describe how far things are 5 mins
Birmingham is 250 kilometres (away) from London.
It is 250 kilometres from Birmingham to London.
We were in London. Birmingham was 250 kilometres away.
Birmingham was 250 kilometres off.
- T asks Ss to write sentences to describe how far they are from their homes
to school
Cycle 2 - Listening 20 mins
Pre-listening - T shows Ss pictures of 8 famous tourist spots and asked them to name 5 mins
those pictures, then check the answers
While-listening - T plays the audio tape two times. In the first time SS are required to listen 15 mins
only, in the second times they will do the 2 tasks.
- T checks the answers
Cycle 3 - Speaking 30 mins
Pre-speaking Brainstorm: Things you want to bring along when travelling abroad 5 mins
While-speaking Planning a trip abroad 10 mins
- T divides the class into groups of 5. Each group has to make a discussion
on 7 items on they would bring along with them to go on a trip aboard.
Post-speaking Each group draw a poster and make a short presentation on why they choose 15 mins
those items
Cycle 4 - Writing 10 mins
T explains about the structure of a postcard and give Ss an example 5 mins
Chain stories 5 mins
- T divides Ss in group of 5. Each group has to write a postcard to send to
their family at home about their vacation pretending that they are brothers
and sisters of the same family.
- T give the first sentence of the postcard and each student contribute one
sentence to
