On September 24th. 1996, an astounding
and rather frightening event allegedly took
place, on a lonely, country Fife road. Two
females and two children first be.came
aware of bright lights in the sky above
them, at around 20.00hrs, as they drove to
their local village for supplies. The lights
were bright enough to illuminate a near-by
field. As the witnesses drew near, they
saw that the beams of light emanated from
a dark, stationary object in the sky. They
first assumed that it must have been an
airplane. It was soon after that they
realised that what they were looking at,
was a huge triangular-shaped craft, which
they estimated to be at least 80 yards
across, with a large dome on top. The craft.
then moved away, when at the same
moment the onlookers heard the sound of
a conventional craft, somewhere in the
vicinity. The witnesses could still see the
object, which was now stationary again,
high up in the sky, looking to all intents;
and purposes like a star.
Later in the evening the witnesses returned
to the spot; the time being about 21.45hrs.
They had contacted UFO magazine in the
meantime, to report the sighting. This time
there was a powerful blue glow in the field,
coming from a point just above tree level.
Above that was a star-like object puls-
ating, all the time growing smaller and
larger.
It was then that the witnesses noticed
many small figures, (some reports suggest
hundreds) in the field and woods. Several:
seemed to be taller than the rest; standing
at a height of around seven feet. The tall
beings had dark skin, oriental-shaped eyes
and seemed to be supervising the smaller
figures. The figures were moving towards
a black object on the ground. The
witnesses then became frightened and left
the area, heading for home.
Yet again, the two female witnesses
returned with one male, but this time
armed with binoculars. (what a wasted
opportunity for them not to have contacted
the authorities, and what a wasted
opportunity for UFO Magazine not to have
contacted a researcher in the area at the
time!!!) Through the binoculars they could
see the star-like object more clearly and

described it as being ’Amber in colour with
dark indentations all around it, rotating
slowly, occasionally rotating on itsaxis.’
The countless small beings were carrying
small boxes and canisters, which they
would put on the ground, then pick back
up, taking them to the large craft which "
the witnesses had originally seen in the
sky, but which was now on the ground. The
witnesses also described several "Large,
transparent capsule-type ’things’, rippled t’
on the outside with indentations like a
brain. There were some very thin, ’small
beings’ inside." Then they saw other
capsules which reminded them of cocoons,
coming from the trees, also with small
beings inside. In fact these aliens were a
’hive’ of activity, so near the roadside,
where they cannot have failed to have
been noticed. Suddenly the cocoon-like
craft shot towards the witnesses and
stopped four feet in front of them, and
many figures scurried towards the now
terrified humans. Panic-stricken, they
managed to escape in their car and headed
for home at top speed.
It was later, when one of the female
witnesses began having ’flashbacks’, and
now she feels that they were all taken
aboard the craft. She remembers a very
bright place, she said, "I could no.t move,
they were doing things to me. They did not
hurt me so I felt happy. The little ones
were smiling at me with their big eyes and
taking things from me; these they gave to
a tall being. He touched me with a long
probe-like rod..." She goes on to describe
the small beings as approximately four to
five feet in height, with nothing remotely
human about them at all.They had big

for their bodies; no mouth was visible,
(although one witness described them as
having strange deceiving mouths.) The
gender could not be determined.
The events shook the people involved
terribly and even now they are said to
burst into tears when recalling the incident.
One thought she would suffer a nervous
breakdown, and in a way she hoped that
she would, and it had all been her
imagination, and that this type of creature
do not exist.
It has been reported that the witnesses

investigators had left them. [The SSPR
have not been involved in such investi-

allegedly told them that they could see
streaks of light emanating from their
living-room wall and that they had seen
" ’greys’ in various parts of their house.
Worst of all. it was alleged that witnesses’
real identities and addresses had been
disclosed to friends and colleagues.
The victims themselves report that the
drama is not over. and that they have seen
in their homes, small greys in c~wls
(Shades of the Dero’s) and are subject to
psychic attack! But no one seems to know
the actual nature of these attacks.

EDITOR’s NOTE
I have heard rumours for months about this
strange case. The facts I heard through
the ’grape vinel were so bizarre that I
became intrigued. I was also asked to
intervene, because the witnesses were said
to be traumatised by investigators as much
as their experiences. Recent press articles
have made the water even muddier, and I
have only sympathy for the victims.
This case appears to be a prime example of
clumsy investigation, and also meddling
from the media. It also may be Scotland’s
own Rendlesham Forest. It has similarities
to the case, where it was alleged that a
UFO crashed. on 27th. December 1980 on
the RAF/USAF Woodridge base. near
Ipswich. The object there was describe41 as
being metallic in appearance and triangular
in shape. It illuminated the entire forest
with white light. The object had a pulsing
red light on top. and banks of blue liGhts
underneath.
I think it is a great pity that a proper
investigation was not done into the Fife
case at the time, and the witnesses were
not given helpful advice, after their
frightening experience; whatever they saw
that night. Unfortunately we cannot
interfere in a case without being invited to
do so. The witnesses will have been
already questioned so much, that little
additional evidence is likely to come from
them. Any new material might well be
suspect, because of their ordeal, not least
with the investigators at the time.

Highly Indebted Poor Countries Initiative
Mr. Bill Michie: To ask the Chancellor of the
Exchequer what assessment he has made of the rec ntly
agreed highly indebted poor countries initiative; and f he
will make a statement. [ 329]

the hon. Member for Newham, North-East (Mr.Ti
on 14 October, Official Report, columns 705-706.
if it was judged that breaches of United.Kingdom airspace
had occurred; and if he will list all similar incidents which
have occurred since 1979. [2932]
Mr. Soames: The targets were identified as Russian
maritime patrol aircraft and were in the northern portion
of the UK air defence region. They did not penetrate UK
airspace. Information covering the period from 1979 is
not held in a readily available form and could be provided
only at disproportionate cost and effort.

Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for

Nuclear Weapons
Mr. Llew Smith: To ask the Secretary of Stat
Defence what assessment he has made of the repo of
the Canberra Commission on the elimination of nu lear
weapons.
Mr. Soames: We have noted the conclusions 0 the
Canberra Commission. We remain committed to. the
pursuit of negotiations in good faith on effective meas s
relating to nuclear disarmament, as set out in article I of
the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. But nu ear
disarmament cannot realistically be pu ued
independently of the broader security context. We and
NATO continue to judge that nuclear deterrence play an
essential role in maintaining peace and stability in Eur pe.
Unidentified Flying Objects
Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for
Defence if he will make a statement on the circumst ces
of the two occasions referred to in his answer of 24 ly,
Official Report, column 424, when RAF aircraft ere
scrambled or diverted from task to investi ate
uncorrelated radar targets; if the objects were identi ed;

Defence when United Kingdom military personnel were
briefed about the scrambling of Belgian F-16 aircraft on
30 and 31 March 1990; when the unidentified flying
object concerned was detected on United Kingdom radar
systems; and if RAF aircraft were scrambled. [3185]

Mr. Soames:.The Belgian authorities did not notify
adjacent countries because no threat was perceived. There
is no evidence of radar contacts within the UK air
defence system.
Radiation
Mr. Redmond: To ask the Secretary of State for
Defence if the radiation readings, reported to his
Department by Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt on
13 January 1981, were judged to have posed any threat
to Lieutenant Colonel Halt and his team; who assessed
the readings; how the radiation compared with
background radiation in the area; and if he will make
a statement. (2934)
Mr. Soames: There is .no record of any official
assessment of the radiation readings reported by
Lieutenant Colonel Halt.
The overall aim of the study w’ll be to provide comprehensive
data on
feasibility, cost and operatio al effectiveness. A decision on which
option, if any, to pursue woul then be made. Industrial factors and
affordability would, as always, be taken into account.

In answer to a Parliamentary Q estion from Edward Leigh MP

(Gainsborough and Hornscastle), Defence Procurement Minister, James
Arbuthnot said:

study into a future offensive air system. The Tornado GR1 (now
being upgraded to GR4 sta ard) provides a long-range power
projection and alr interdi tion capability. The study will
examine a range of for maintaining this capabllity
beyond the planned al date of the GR4 in the second
decade of the new millenni m.

Notes to Editors

A system to replace the Tornado GR4 (the upgraded version of the

Tornado GR1) would come into se vice around 2015.

Study contracts will be let wit a number of contractors and with the
Defence Evaluation and Research Agency. The work will be managed by
the MOD Procurement Executive i Bristol.
The scope for collaboration wi hin Europe and
elsewhere will be fully
explored. The study will bene it from a joint
Anglo-French
technology demonstration progr mme to permit computer
modelling of
weapons systems.

This study is quite separate f om the current four

nation Eurofighter
project, which is approaching ’ts production phase and is
intended to
replace the Tornado F3 {air de (A future variant of
