We are so excited for this year to begin, and truly look forward to
an exciting year of learning ahead! Below is some important
information regarding school and classroom routines, important
times, and numbers etc.

General Information:

Children are expected to be at school at the bell at 8:20am. If

your child arrives after the bell, they are expected to enter
through the main school doors, proceed to the office to check in
with the secretary as late, then immediately to his/her classroom.
We will be having morning snack and natural recess break as a
grade one group. Please send your child with a small, healthy
portable snack for this time. Lunch is from 11:55 - 12:50pm, and
final dismissal is at 3:20pm Monday thru Thursday. Students will
attend 8:20-11:55am on the Fridays.

Every student will need a good pair of indoor non-marking shoes

to wear while in the school. Students will have daily Phys. Ed.
Classes in the gym this year. It is important to have a good pair of
running shoes at school for this purpose and to help our facility
operators keep our environment clean. Please ensure that your
child is able to tie laces independently or consider other options
such as Velcro or zippers.

Children in the primary grades are often confused whether or not

clothing items belong to them when they are at school. Please
ensure that every item of outside clothing and or/shoes is labeled.
You may wish to consider packing a spare change of clothing in
your childs backpack should they need this within the school
day.

After recess and Phys.Ed. most children are very thirsty, we ask
that each child come with a non-spillable water bottle each day.
Due to the quick build up of bacteria, it is important that they are
washed frequently.

Communication:
The best way to reach your childs teacher throughout the day is
via email which will be provided to you. We welcome
communication from parents, and intend to have a very on-going
conversations with you via email and through our grade one and
classroom online communication portals. Alternatively, you can
reach your childs teacher during school hours through the
schools main phone line at 403-817-3512, and leave a message
with our school secretaries or ask to be transferred to voicemail.
Please note however, that teachers are unable to check phone
messages throughout the day, so for time sensitive requests and
information, voicemail is not the best choice. For all
communication we will do our best to contact you after
instructional hours. Further information regarding communication
will be provided to you at a later date.

To make effective communication possible, we request that you

provide your childs teacher with your preferred email address(es)
so they can send information to you. These addresses will not be
shared and will only be used to communicate classroom
information and updates home to you. Please watch for a notice
coming home requesting your contact information.

We also highly recommend you visit our schools website regularly,

as important information is updated frequently. This page can be
found at http://schools.cbe.ab.ca/b106/#

Volunteering:
Throughout the year I will be seeking volunteers to assist with
classroom projects, fieldtrips, preparation of supplies, organization,
school wide extra-curricular activities, sharing your expertise, and
general classroom help. Please watch out for email requests
regarding volunteering opportunities.

All volunteers MUST have a valid Copperfield School Security
Clearance. This can take some time to process/transfer, so please
contact the main office ASAP if you are interested in volunteering.

Health and Safety:

As a school, we are conscientious about making our classrooms
safe and healthy for all learners. If your child has a severe allergy,
please let your childs teacher know ASAP and we will do all we
can to educate the other students and parents in their classroom
to ensure your childs safety. We also highly encourage your child
to make healthy choices for snacks and lunch which will give
them the energy he/she needs to make it through the long day!
Thank you in advance for supporting our healthy classrooms.
Please also ensure that you send any cutlery, and know we do
not have access to microwaves for heating student lunches.

In Closing:
We are excited to embark on this exciting new journey at
Copperfield School with you and your child! Please know we are
available to discuss any questions or concerns you may have, as
they may arise throughout the year. It is our intent and goal to
make this year a positive and wonderful learning experience for
your child, and to address his/her learning needs with
personalized care and meticulous attention. Thank you for taking
the time to read this information package and we look forward to
working with you this year.

Sincerely,
The Grade One team
