Migration to the Alliance Web Platform SE to SWIFT - FAQ 7-Apr-16 Page 3

1 Executive Summary
In April-May 2013, SWIFT ran a survey around the use and adoption of Alliance Web Platform SE, the
strategic GUI platform for the whole Alliance product family. The survey brought a lot of interesting
information that will allow SWIFT to further evolve the Web Platform SE product to better meet your
needs. Next to that, it also pointed out that some of the Web Platform SE alternatives for features that
existed on Alliance WebStation and Alliance WorkStation are not yet well know.
This document, in the form of a Frequently Asked Questions list, tries to clarify how Alliance Web
Platform SE can provide the same functionality as Alliance WebStation and Alliance WorkStation, so
that you can make a smoother migration, and retire Alliance WebStation and Alliance WorkStation in
your institution. It is not intended to be a complete list of features and functions, but rather a list of
questions that SWIFT gets frequently on the subject of retiring Alliance WebStation and Alliance
WorkStation.
If you need further help with one of the questions below, open a support case and explain your
situation in as much detail as possible.

2 Alliance Web Platform SE

2.1 How do I obtain Alliance Web Platform SE?
The Alliance Web Platform SE software is delivered as part of the Alliance Gateway, and
Access/Entry contracts.
Alliance Web Platform SE and corresponding patches are available through the Download Centre at
www.swift.com.
The GUI packages for Alliance servers are distributed with the corresponding Alliance products or
available through the Download Centre at www.swift.com and need to be deployed in the Alliance
Web Platform SE.

2.2 How to deploy Alliance Web Platform server-embedded (SE)

in a scalable environment?
For more information on how to deploy Alliance Web Platform server-embedded (SE) in a scalable
and resilient configuration see tip 5018595

2.3 Web Platform does not run as fast as I would like. What can I
do?
As a SWIFT customer you have an access to the knowledge base so please find more details in
tip 5018483

2.4 How to request Web Platform usability improvements?

At SWIFT Customer Support, we aim to provide you with the tools you need to help protect and
enhance your SWIFT infrastructure. To find answers to your questions, please use our
Documentation and Knowledge Base. If you cannot find an answer, then please contact us using the
Case Manager.

2.5 Some parts of the Web Platform GUI fall outside the screen?

3 IBM WebSphere Application Server based Web Platform
Due to a lack of interest from the community SWIFT decided to retire the IBM WebSphere Application
Server based Web Platform. Web Platform server-embedded (SE) with an embedded application
server is the strategic GUI platform for the full Alliance product family. Alliance Web Platform using
IBM WebSphere Application Server reached end-of-support on 1 November 2015.

4 From Alliance WebStation to Alliance Web Platform SE

Alliance WebStation reached end-of-support on 31 December 2015.

4.1 Is Alliance WebStation supported with latest Windows

versions?
Alliance WebStation has not been qualified on Windows 7 or newer, nor for usage with newer
browsers.
Alliance WebStation includes Java 6 update 22 but will not be compatible with Java 7 or newer
release.
SWIFT proposes the use of the Web Platform as alternative for both cases.

4.2 Is Alliance WebStation supported on Windows XP after April

2014?
Microsoft has stopped extended support for Windows XP on 8, April 2014.
SWIFT will as such not provide functionality assistance of WebStation 7.0 on Windows XP.

4.3 Can I use both Alliance WebStation and Alliance

WebPlatform SE connected to the same Alliance Gateway
server?
Alliance WebPlatform SE is included in your Alliance Gateway license and can be freely deployed.
Alliance Web Platform SE can run concurrently with your existing Alliance WebStation.
The migration can be done in parallel and can also be done in phases: if Alliance WebStation is used
for multiple functions they can be migrated independently.

4.4 What is the alternative for my standalone Alliance

WebStation?
SWIFT propose a set of alternatives depending on the situation you are in:

Situation Alternative
You have access to an Alliance The best alternative is to use the Alliance Web Platform that is
Gateway (within your institution or included with your Alliance Gateway contract, or made
your group or via a service bureau) available via your service bureau. It allows you to perform all
functions that Alliance WebStation used to give or gives you
today.
You have other SWIFT traffic going The best alternative is to coordinate with your head office or
over a shared infrastructure (Head service bureau to extend the service they provide to you and
office or service bureau) include the services you use via WebStation today.
WebStation is the only connection to As you use Alliance WebStation only to access Browse
SWIFT. services, we advise to migrate to our Lite2 cloud offering,
which gives you access to Browse services in a secure and
cost effective way without the need for system maintenance at

you site.
Your SWIFT Interface connects Some of the third party interfaces provide sufficient features to
directly to SNL take care of PKI management without the need to use Online
Operations Manager Browse service. This might cover your
needs already. For any further assistance please contact
SWIFT support.

4.5 What is the alternative to the Service GUI I use?

Service GUI Alternative

Accord The Accord GUI 7.1 and higher is available through Alliance
Web Platform. Accord GUI 7.2.1 is not supported on
WebStation anymore.
For more information see tip 5016859 as well the Accord 38.6
release letter.
Bank of England - TOLL and CMP This Browse based service is compatible with Web Platform.
CLS Configuration and administration of MFP parameters from a
GUI integrated with Alliance Web Platform
MEPS+ This Browse based service is compatible with Web Platform.
( Singapore RTGS Browse GUI)
Target2 This Browse based service is compatible with Web Platform.

1
If you think you have other Service GUIs in production , contact the supplier of the plug-in to obtain an
alternative.

4.6 How do I start/stop Alliance Gateway without Alliance

WebStation?
This can be done via the Gateway Administration GUI package using the Monitoring > Processes >
Alliance Gateway: <Instance> page.
For more details see the Alliance Gateway Administration and Operations Guide (for Web Platform)
chapter 6.2.3 Alliance Gateway Instance

4.7 How can I check my HSM status without WebStation?

This can be done via the Gateway Administration GUI package using the HSM Management > HSM
Status page.
For more details see the Alliance Gateway Administration and Operations Guide (for Web Platform)
chapter 7.2 HSM status.

4.8 How do I perform manual FileAct without WebStation?

Several applications have been certified as FileAct Interfaces, some of which provide the possibility
for manual FileAct. The full list can be found on www.swift.com.
SWIFT has enhanced both Alliance Access and Alliance Entry to handle FileAct traffic and has
introduced features to also handle manual FileAct operations.

For more details see the Alliance Access/Entry Message Management Application Guide chapters
7.11 File Message: Send and 7.12 File Message: Get

4.9 Are the Browse services I use ready for Alliance Web
Platform?
All providers of Browse services have been requested in April 2009 to enhance their offering so that
their Browse service can run seamlessly on Alliance Web Platform as well. SWIFT has compiled a list
of Browse services announced by the service provider as compatible with Web Platform (tip
2204605). The absence of a service in the list indicates that SWIFT did not receive any information
regarding the support of Web Platform clients. In this case we recommend that you contact your
service provider for more information.

4.10 How do I manage MRR without WebStation?

Since the introduction of release 7.0 the SWIFTNet Online Operations Manager is the primary way to
manage your SWIFTNet configuration. The SWIFTNet Online Operations Manager is a standard
Browse service over SWIFTNet. Via Alliance Web Platform you can access Browse services in
general and as such also the SWIFTNet Online Operations Manager.
For more details see the SWIFTNet Online Operations Manager - User Guide chapter 4.1 Routing
Rules Management

4.11 How do I manage PKI without WebStation?

Since the introduction of release 7.0 the SWIFTNet Online Operations Manager is the primary way to
manage your SWIFTNet configuration. The SWIFTNet Online Operations Manager is a standard
Browse service over SWIFTNet. Via Alliance Web Platform you can access Browse services in
general and as such also the SWIFTNet Online Operations Manager.
For more details see the SWIFTNet Online Operations Manager - User Guide chapter 3.1 Certificate
Management

4.12 Do I need to take a backup before migrating to the Alliance

Web Platform SE?
There is no data base in the WebStation so no data base back up to plan; the Backup is the one of
the Alliance Gateway which is a separated Application. There is no incidence on the Alliance Gateway
when you install and connect the Alliance Web Platform SE.
When it is done, in the future you will have to do the Backup of the Alliance Web Platform SE as there
is a DB inside this new application.

4.13 Do I have to do an "unlicensing" to get rid of our Alliance

WebStation license?
No, the Alliance WebStation and the Alliance Web Platform SE are part of your Alliance Gateway
contract so there is no action to take for your license.

4.14 Are there any special considerations for CREST users?

Crest SWIFTNet service is a messaging service so it is not linked to the Alliance Gateway but to
Alliance Access/Entry, the Alliance Web Platform SE is also now the preferred GUI for Alliance
Access/Entry replacing the Alliance WorkStation. All functionalities of the Alliance WorkStation are
now in Alliance Web Platform SE so there is no special thing to consider for CREST.

Since SWIFTNet 7.0 Alliance Web Platform is the default GUI framework to manage Alliance
interfaces

5.3 How do I obtain Alliance Web Platform SE?

Alliance WebPlatform SE is included in your Alliance Access/Entry license without any additional
charge and can be freely deployed.

5.4 Do I need to take a backup before migrating to the Alliance

Web Platform SE?

one of the Alliance Access which is a separated Application. There is no incidence on the Alliance
Access when you install and connect the Alliance Web Platform SE.
When it is done, in the future you will have to do the Backup of the Alliance Web Platform SE as there
is a DB inside this new application.

5.5 Do I have to do an "unlicensing" to get rid of our Alliance

WorkStation license?
No, the Alliance WorkStation and the Alliance Web Platform SE are part of your Alliance Access

Workstation. Please find more details in tip 5017780.

5.7 Can I still use Alliance WorkStation beyond June 2017?

The Alliance WorkStation will not be provided with the 2017 Standard patch thus if you want to
comply with the new annual Standard version you will not have the possibility to install Alliance
WorkStation anymore.

5.8 Are ADK components still supported?

Alliance Developer Kit remains fully supported. It is the phasing out of the Alliance Workstation that
drives SWIFT to look for a technology alternative to support the current GUI functionality
(authentication, display and actions on messages) into a new platform, possibly leveraging elements
of the Web Platform.

5.9 Are ADK GUIs still supported?

For ADK GUI SWIFT is analysing the best replacement technology. SWIFT has already discussed the
high level plans for this migration with providers of Certified ADK applications that have indicated their
intention to migrate their existing SAW based ADK GUIs.

functionalities are missing in Alliance WebPlatform SE
SWIFT is actively working on the alignment of the functionalities between Alliance WorkStation and
Alliance WebPlatform SE. The Alliance WebPlatform SE 7.0.65 patch and Alliance Access 7.1.15 will
close most of the gaps between the two applications.
The main areas of improvement are:
- Multi-Windows capability
- Monitoring
- Printing/Reporting
- Usability improvements

5.12 Can I request an extension of the Support from SWIFT?

No support extension is offered for Alliance WorkStation.

5.13 Is Alliance WorkStation supported with the last Windows

since then. Alliance WorkStation 7.0 has been qualified and is supported on Windows Server 2008 R2
and Windows Vista and will be supported in these two environments only, until end of June 2017.

5.14 What are the steps to migrate to the Alliance Web Platform
SE?
1. Conduct an operational analysis, to check if you are still using Alliance Workstations, and to
plan their migration to Alliance Web Platform SE.

2. Inform SWIFT by June 2015, of your planned date to cease use of Alliance Workstation.

3. Install Alliance Web Platform SE as soon as possible.

It can run concurrently with the existing Alliance Workstation, its included in your current
Alliance Access/Entry license and is deployed at no extra charge.

4. Customers with an ADK Graphical User Interface (GUI) are advised to contact their ADK
