Objectives

You will learn:

What?
What Module Types are available in ACCE
Why?
Why model Modules in your ACCE estimates
How?
How to model Modules What inputs are needed.
Where?
Review Reports, Discuss Results
Prerequisites:

What? is a Module

Scope of Module for ACCE

pre-fabricated unit sections of a facility, fabricated off-site
by a shop labor pool, transported to the site as a few
sections for placement and hookup to field erected
components or adjacent modules.

Type is determined by:

Transportation constraints/methods
Shape

Why? Plant Designs Use Modules?

Labor Pool for Fabrication is separate from the Field

Labor Pool
Possible to overcome local labor pool constraints
Potentially leverage specialized expertise
Reduce quantity of Material Transportation Logistics
(In-accessible locations)
Shop Environment can have more productive
conditions and have efficiency enhancements
(Specialized Equipment)
Additional Scheduling Flexibilities Possible

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
Why? Plant Designs Use Modules?

Higher Quality and better testing(Shorten start-up)

Reduce plant interference(Less re-work in field)
Reduce Turn-around time(Flamability concerns)
Movable

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
Why? use Modules in ACCE

Preliminary estimate of steel costs based on

Scope
Unique method for modeling shop labor force
(wage rates, productivities)
Better reporting for Shop vs Field costs and for Per
Module cost reporting.
Additional work items/equipment requirements for
placement of modules.

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? Steps Modules

Basic Steps to Use Modules in ACCE

1. Create Module Areas
2. Create Module Shop Workforces
3. Create Module Shop Contractors
4. Assign Desired Scope in Module Areas to Module
Contractors (Scope/ConSet Assignments)

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? Create Module Areas

1. Create Module Areas

A. Add an Area Select Module as the Area Type
Best practice is to set overall plot area of modules here
Necessary for multi-module units (Discussed Later)
Not always used check module dimensions

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? Create Module Areas (cont)

1. Create Module Areas (cont)

B. Specify Module Type and Dimensions

How? Create Module Areas (cont)

1. Create Module Areas (cont)

C. Specify Transport Costs -
Required
No standard model
(Completely User Specified)

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? Create Module Shop Workforces

2. Create Module Shop Workforces

A. Create Module Shop Workforces - Specify Module Shop
Workforce data Wage Rates, Productivity, Work
Schedule

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? Create Module Shop Contractors

3. Create Module Shop Contractors

A. Create Contractors
B. Assign Workforces

How? Create Module Shop Contractors(Cont)

3. Create Module Shop Contractors

C. Specify Contractor Data
Specify Overhead Structure
Set Contractor Type
to Module

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? Assign Contractor Scope
4. Assign Desired Scope in Module Areas to Module
Contractors (Scope/ConSet Assignments)
A. Create Contract Scope Sets (ConSets)
B. Assign Scope to Scope Sets

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? Assign Contractor Scope (cont)

4. Assign Contractor Scope (cont)

C. Assign Discipline/Work Tasks to
Contractors - This allows you to
portion work between Module
Shop and Field
Divide Scope between Multiple
Contractors
Assign Contractors to Scope by
Code Of Account
Material and Labor Specified
Separately

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? Splitting Accounts Shop/Field

For Tasks/Materials that are assigned the same

account and some are handled by Shop and some
are Handled in the Field. An Additional area for field
items is required to assign it to the correct
Contractor Scope(ConSet)

How? Controlling Foundation
Mass Pour Foundation
Above Grade Pad Slab Thickness
can be specified on Module specs.
+
Depth of footing (Frost Line) can be
specified in Area Civil specs.
Concrete is dependent on Depth of
Footing.

Default Excavation is slopped.

Slope can be adjusted using
Excavation Slope in Civil Specs
OR Zero out and use plant bulk
items for other Foundation Types

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? TRMD/BRGM

Truck-able/Barge-able
Can have up to 4 Modules
in ONE area and they can
be stacked two high
Designed as a bolted frame
structure
Heaviest Module placed first
in estimate for Crane
setup/teardown calculations

2008 Aspen Technology, Inc. All rights reserved. All capabilities and dates are for planning purposes only and may not be used in any contract.
How? TRMD/BRGM(cont)
Truck-able/Barge-able Type
Major equipments (vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, etc.)
small enough to locate on an individual module
Large vessels such as towers, large heat exchangers,
process heaters, etc. to be mounted on individual
foundations.
Siding is Corrugated with or without Insulation
Truck-able:
One dimension up to 80(24m); other two dimensions up to 25 (7.6m)
Economic max weight - 50 tons
Barge-able:
size could be up to 200 (60.8m) L x 200 W x 100 (30.4m) H

How? TRMD/BRGM (cont)

Equipment Location
Components can be loaded
to modules using Structure
Tag with System defined
tags (TRMD-x or BRGM-x).
By default all equipments
are distributed among all
modules.

How? Advanced - Cold Box Design

Rectangular and Cylindrical

Rectangular:
Option of round or square tube columns. If the load
becomes too large for the biggest square tube column, a
wide-flange member will be used.
Diagonal Bracing / Plate- Option of diagonal bracing
(default), or plates shear loads (no diagonals)
If the box height exceeds 100, the column size will be
varied every 40
