OK, basically, the steps I divide into 3 stages:

connect your computer using network cable to any LAN port of the
n56. make sure your computer wifi (if any) is disabled. you can
enable dhcp client at this stage (obtain IP address automatically).

1st stage - LAN config

1) reset all settings to factory defaults (so we have a clean start)
2) set your LAN IP of the n56u to 192.168.0.100

dlink gateway 192.168.0.1

set asus to 192.168.0.2

set gateway and dns to 192.168.0.1

leave the netmask as 255.255.255.0

3) under "DHCP server" tab, disable dhcp.
set the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 (your main router LAN IP).
set the DNS server 1 to 192.168.0.1 (your main router LAN IP).
4) reboot the n56u

at this point, configure your computer to use static IP, e.g.

192.168.0.3 (this is outside of the dhcp range above)

to connect to asus router at 192.168.0.2, set network

manually(network card)
point IP add to 192.168.0.3
sub netmask to 255.255.255.0

once inside set router to AP mode first

configure 5ghz at wireless bridge
2.4 as AP

2nd stage - configure the AP-client band

1) after the n56u comes up after the reboot, point your computer
browser to 192.168.0.100 (your n56 IP set above).
2) click "Wireless 2.4GHz" on the left bar, then General tab. change
the "Region Code" to "debug (all channels)"
3) Click the "Bridge" tab. set "Wireless operation mode" to "AP-
client (AP is disabled)"
4) set the "wireless AP-Client role" to "LAN bridge"
5) for radio channel, tick the checkbox "autoseek" (don't have to
select the channel).
6) for "STA SSID" click on "access point survey" and pick your main
router SSID you want to connect. The channel should auto-fill
above.
7) authentication set to WPA2-personal
8) WPA encryption set to AES
9) wpa pre-shared key put in your main router SSID password
10) click apply
11) reboot the n56

at this point, set your computer back to getting IP automatically

(not static) and if your settings above are correct, your computer
should get an IP from your main router (thru the n56).

You can test your computer whether can access the internet using
the browser.

3rd stage - AP
1) for the other radio (5GHz in your case), you can just set your
normal AP settings under "Wireless 5GHz" under General tab. Set
your SSID, password, etc.
For the Bridge tab, the wireless operation mode should be AP
(bridge disabled).

Finally, power off the n56 and power it on again to be sure the
settings are all in place.
