1. PURPOSE
This document provides painting procedure for tank of PLN MUARA KARANG CCPP
(400-500 MW) project.

3. SURFACE PREPARATION
3.1. General
a) All surfaces to be blasting (using Steel Grit 16/30) as per SSPC-SP-10/NACE No.2
SA 2.5 standard. Before sandblasting to be done, all oil, grease, dirt salts or other
foreign material on the metal surface shall be removed by solvent (chemical oil
remover), and or by power tool equipment.
b) All sharp edges, weld areas, shall be grind or chipped as necessary to remove
weld spatter, flux, etc.
c) Dry abrasive blasting is not permitted under any of the following conditions:
1. Relative humidity is less than 85%
2. If surface temperature is less than 50C above the dew point

5.1. All surfaces where coating is damaged during fabrication, transportation, etc. shall be
repaired as per project specification.
5.2. Painted items rated to unacceptable as a result of tests and inspections shall be
repaired in an appropriate manner.
5.3. The preparation are painted item that have been damage by welding, handling,
unprimed, more than 25% of full areas are primed, the surface preparation is fully
cleaned out. When less than 25% of full areas are primed surface preparation is spot
cleaning only.
5.4. The preparation cleaning by power tool (SSPC SP-3) or hand cleaning (SSPC SP-2) shall
normally be used; blast cleaning may be permitted in special cases.
5.5. The standard application of coating will be applied by spraying method. Touch up or
spot damage areas of coating may be touched up or spot repaired by brush.
5.6. Repaired portions shall be visually checked to see if they have been repairs properly.
They shall also undergo equal inspections.
6. DOCUMENTATION
All activities for surface preparation and painting shall be recorded in the blasting and
painting report.
