Counter measures

1. JHA / Risk assessment shall be done well in advance by site


engineer/supervisor and the same shall be reviewed &
approved by Safety officer, Site in charge / Client.
2. Appropriate PPE's such as Full body harness (work
positioning belt), helmet (chin strap is tied properly), cotton
gloves & safety shoes shall be used.
3. Work permit to be obtained before starting the activity.
(Wherever applicable)
4. All workmen planned for this work shall be screened for
medical fitness.
5. Job specific training shall be imparted by the the supervisor
in presence of site in charge and site safety officer before start
of activity.
6.Working area to be barricated with warning tape to avoid entry
of unauthorised persons.
7. Identified hazards and control measures shall be explained to
erection team/work men through tool box talks every day in the
morning before the start of the activity till the completion of job.

1.Verification/ Inspection of tools as per the tools list.

1. Do not carry excessive load.


2. Use cotton hand gloves to avoid cut injury.
3. Ensure people don't get struck by while carrying pipes &
verticals.
4. Stack the material properly.
5. Ensure that vehicles like tractors,trucks,pick up vans used for
transportation are in good condition.

1. Inspect scaffold material & ensure that no component of
scaffold is damaged.
2. Check availability of all parts & accessories.
3. Barricade the work area to restrict unauthorised entry of
people.
4. Display sign board - "Scaffold under construction".
5. Scaffold should be assembled under the supervision of
competent scaffolder or supervisor.
6. Before erecting the scaffold ensure that surface upon which
scaffold is to be erected is leveled and compacted.
7. Scaffold must be sound, rigid,and sufficient to carry its own
weight plus four times the maximum intended load without
displacement
8. Unstable objects such as barrel, loose bricks, boxes or
concrete blocks must not be used to support scaffold. Only
proper base plates should be used.
9. Scaffold must be equipped with guardrails, midrails &
toeboards.(Rakers if needed)
10. Double lanyard full body safety harness, safety helmet with
chinstrip, safety shoes & cotton handgloves should be used as
PPE'S.
11. Nylon rope used to lift scaffold component should be
checked for damage before use.
12. Proper platform,anchorage point & adequate fall protection
should be provided to workers while assemblying scaffold
components above two meter height.
13. Do not throw or allow to fall any pipe, coupler, connectors,
tools etc.to ground.
14. After completion of the assemly check correctness as per
checklist in Siemens Safety Manual.
1.Ensure no bare electric wire exists within 3 mtrs of the
working platform of the scaffold.
2. While carrying bars, rods or pipes,ensure that these do not
touch the electric wires

1.Ensure that scaffold is not erected in the area where vehicular


movements are involved.In case scaffold to be erected in such
areas, then the area should be barricaded with the signage "
work in progres, vehicle movement not allowed".
2.Ensure that vehicles or other heavy moving equipment do not
strike any part of a scaffold and no material shall be dumped
against it.

1. Appropriate PPE's such as Full body harness with double
lanyard (work positioning belt), helmet (chin strap is tied
properly), cotton gloves & safety shoes shall be used.
2. Suitable anchorage to be provided while working on the
scaffold.

1. All height workers shall come down from work area using life
line and fall arrestor. They shall come one by one.
2. Double lanyards of full body harness shall be used while
coming down.
3. Chin strap of helmet shall be secured with face properly.
4. Appropriate PPE shall be used during descending.
5. Before coming down ensure no loose material is left on
Scaffold.
6. Safety belt should be anchored to the ledgers of the Scaffold
or life line to be used while coming down
7. Three point contact should be maintained while coming down
from the Scaffold

1. The injured person should be given First aid immediately.


2. First aid box shall be made available with required medicines
in adequate quantity.
3. One vechicle shall be made available for meeting emergency
needs.
4. All employees shall be explained about the provisions of first
aid, assembly point and contact numbers etc.

1. Ensure that all nut & bolts are brought down in a bag secured
suitably with body.
2. Materials and tools shall not be thrown from height to ground.
Tools and tackles may be sent down in a bag tied with rope.
3. No person shall be allowed to stand or work in the vicinity of
height work area.
4.Working area to be barricated with warning tape around the
tower footings to avoid entry of unauthorised persons.
