Dear Akiro,
Thank you for your interesting letter. I enjoyed reading
about your great grandfather who was a Japanese warrior. I would
like to see his great sword if I ever visit Japan.
In your letter, you asked me to tell you about my family
and relatives. The best way to do that is to send you a
photograph. You can see over a hundred relatives of mine. Wow!
You would say.
Let me start with my grandfather and grandmother. They
have twelve children. Seven of them are sons. Each of them has
ten children of their own. So most of the people in the
photographs are my uncles, aunts and my cousins. Eight of my
cousins are married and have several children. Their children look
like me, with round faces, flat noses, big ears and high cheeks.
The photograph was taken at a kenduri (feast) on my
grandfathers ninety-fifth birthday. He does not carry a great
sword like your great grandfather. He holds only a walking-stick
which we call tongkat. Can you find me in the photograph? You
might want to use a magnifying glass. Bye and best regards to
