SUMMARY :

A bulky woman and her husband got into a second-class carriage.the woman
was upset.her thin husband explained to the remaining passengers that their only son was
going to the front in three days.so,she was upset.he said that they had left their home at
sulmona and followed their son to rome ,for his studies.later,he wanted to become a
soldier.they accepted with an assurance that he would not be sent to the front for atleast the
next 6 months.but,now,all of a sudden,they got a message that he was leaving for the front in
three days time.

Then,a pssenger said that his son had been sent to the front the first day.his son
had already come back twice wounded and he had been sent back again.

Then,another passenger said that his two sons and three nephews were at the
front.the thin man said that he had to worry more as it was their only son.for this,the
passenger said that whether it be one or ten,a father gives all his love to each one of his
children.he said that he was equally suffering for both of his sons, but not one.so,his pain was
double.
