their self-esteem and develop a greater understanding
of healthy lifestyles and of their relationships with
others.

Unit 1 Self and Others

Unit 2 Taking Care of Yourself
Unit 3 Relationships and Sexuality

Social and Health 2

This module aims to develop and extend the interpersonal

and intra personal awareness and coping skills introduced
in Social and Health 1.
The focus in this module is on managing feelings,
parenting responsibilities and informing students about
support agencies for dealing with problems.

Unit 1 Communication
Unit 2 Relationships
Unit 3 Coping with Problems

2
Time Allocation:
This module is taught across the year so it needs two
classes per week from September to June for year 1
and year 2.

Allocation of Credits:
One credit is awarded at the end of May on completion
of four assignments and a 90% attendance record.

Strategies for Teaching Social and Health

Use a variety of teaching methodologies e.g. role-

play, group work, pair-work, running debates,
learning centres, word searches, sentence
completion exercises, surveys, interviews, quizzes,
video, etc

Websites:
www.puzzlemaker.com
www.webwinder.com
www.bbc.co.uk
www.skool.ie
www.scoilnet.ie

Take a roll in every class- keep your own class

record of attendance

Summarise learning at the end of each class.

3
Ensure you have individual student folders for each
module in which all work is kept

Complete assignments as you go, not all together at

the end of a module. Set target dates for
completion of assignments.

Keep signed record sheets of all completed

assignments. Store all assignments carefully.

Set up a Social and Health notice board in the

classroom for displaying completed work and ongoing
news/magazine related articles

Set up a magazine and a newspaper box in the

classroom as a resource for up to date
articles/pictures/issues etc.

Take students out into the community and bring in

guest speakers to the classroom.

Use local resources of parent, medical, community

based personnel etc.
