Bonodori Overview

Bonodori festival is held in Cebu once a year to deepen the exchange of culture
between the Philippines and Japan.

Japanese drummers, comedians, singers, etc. are invited and Japanese culture
is introduced to Filipinos.

Famous Japanese food such as Ramen, Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki and Dorayaki are
patronized by Filipinos.

This tradition is called Bon Odori.

Dancing is the integral part of the festival. Filipino and Japanese dance and
celebrate Bonodori together.

2. Bonodori
Bon Odori is a traditional summer festival in which ancestors who have passed
are honored, remembered and appreciated of all they have done. Their ongoing
presence in the lives we enjoy today are celebrated through customary dances
during the event.
