COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The principal aim of this course is to introduce students to the principles and procedures
involved in the numerical modeling of CFD problems with the following objectives:

To develop the foundations of Finite Element (FEM) and Finite Volume Methods (FVM).
To create the basic Computational Fluid Dynamics concepts and methodologies and their
application to more complex physical problems.

On successful completion of this course you will be expected to be able to:

Express fundamental knowledge and technique of FEM.

Demonstrate tools to analyse engineering problems using FEM and FEA packages.
Explain basic concepts and theories of Computational Fluid Dynamics using FLUENT.

GENERAL INFORMATION TO THE STUDENTS

Teamwork:
Next class you shall chose a 3-person team. Each member of the team is responsible for
the success of the project/assignments that will be given during the each term.

Grading of the assignments/projects is based primarily on teamwork, participation and

presentation. You must attend each class and participate in all team projects.

At the end of the term, your team members will each have a chance to evaluate your
contribution to team activities, this is to help moderate your project/assignment results.

Homework:
Individual homework/mini project is collected, graded, and returned in less
than a week. No late assignment is accepted (unless your excuse makes me laugh or cry).

Cooperation on homework can be helpful in learning however, copying someone's

homework will not be tolerated. In reading assignments, you are responsible for all
material whether it is covered in class or not. Numerical answers should contain three
sig. digits.

NB: Do not be afraid to ask any question, during or after classes preferably through my
University email address: emmanuel.zingapeta@cbu.ac.zm.
