pumps

2. PURPOSE
2.1 The purpose of this procedure is to detail the necessary criteria for installation work
of chillers & chilled water pumps, as per approved shop drawings and manufacturers
recommendations, to produce a quality installation conforming to relative standards
and project specifications.

3. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
3.1 GENERAL
3.1.1. All equipment/material received at site shall be inspected by the
engineers representative, handled and stored upon receipt.
3.1.2. All installation / Construction works shall be carried out in compliance
with the contract specifications, approved shop drawings and project
safety manual.
3.1.3. Inspection and testing shall be conducted by the site supervisor and/or be
co-ordinated with Mechanical representative / Engineer (as applicable).
3.1.4. All equipment provided shall be inspected to ensure that it is free from
any physical damages

3.2 CHILLER
3.2.1. Ensure the location where the chiller to be installed is exactly as per
approved shop drawing.
3.2.2. Examine upstands, plinths to receive chillers for completeness with
specification, drawing and manufacturers recommended installation
requirements. Proper bases with isolating pads/inertia bases as specified
in the specification, etc., Must be completed prior to installation.
3.2.3. Mark positions for mounting springs on the concrete foundation
3.2.4. Position mounting springs according to identification numbers or colour
code
3.2.5. Ensure that the mounting springs installed are of correct capacity
according to manufacturer and at proper location.
3.2.6. Lift the chiller on to its pre-positioned mounting spring. Lifting shall be
as per manufacturers recommendations.
3.2.7. Position spring bolts through the chiller designated base holes
3.2.8. Support piping as per approved shop drawings, do not use chiller as a
support for piping
3.2.9. Level and alignment tolerances will be according to manufacturers
recommendations
3.2.10. Do not connect chilled water pipe line until the chiller level and
alignment operations have been completed.
3.2.11. Inspect all water piping for flow direction and correct connections

3.2.12. Connect chilled water pipe line to chiller via flanges/valves

3.2.13. Check all nuts & bolts of chiller springs, flange connection, etc., to
ensure they are tightened correctly
3.2.14. Install valves square & plumb and allowing sufficient access for
operation & maintenance. Nuts & bolts are also to be checked to ensure
they are tightened correctly.
3.2.15. Ensure the pipework connected to the chillers, are as indicated on the
approved drawings. Any deviations according to site condition, shall be
marked and to be reported to engineering department to incorporate in
the as built drawings..
3.2.16. Install flexible connections as shown on the approved drawing(if
applicable)
3.2.17. Install thermometers, pressure gauges and other pipe line accessories as
shown on the approved shop drawing, ensuring all are installed square &
plumb, with sufficient space for operation & maintenance and with
minimum obstructions to take readings.
3.2.18. Prior to electrical connection, check final level and alignment of chiller,
3.2.19. Lubricate all rotating parts(fan motor bearings, valve stem, etc) if so
recommended by the manufacturers representative.
3.2.20. Complete electrical power connections
3.2.21. Locate emergency isolator nearby at a clear visible, easily accessible and
close location
3.2.22. Retain weather protection jacket received along with packing until
commissioning
3.2.23. Ensure all areas that require touch-up painting (scratches etc) on all
chillers have been completed. Upon completion of touch-up ensure the
chiller equipment & accessories have been cleaned.

3.3 CHILLED WATER PUMPS

3.3.1. Ensure the location of the pump to be installed is exactly as per approved
shop drawing.
3.3.2. Examine surfaces (Required Civil bases to be provided by the main
contractor) to receive pumps for completeness with specification,
drawing and manufacturers recommended installation requirements.
Proper bases with isolating pads as specified in the specification, etc.,
must be completed prior to installation.
3.3.3. Ensure pumps where possible are arranged to provide access for periodic
maintenance, including removal of motors, impellers, couplings &
accessories.
3.3.4. Support pumps & piping as per approved shop drawings.
3.3.5. Check all nuts & bolts to ensure they are tightened correctly
3.3.6. Install isolating valves square & plumb and allowing (where possible)
sufficient access for operation & maintenance. Nuts & bolts are also to
be checked to ensure they are tightened correctly.
