Parents should teach teenagers how to

drink responsibly
In many cultures teenagers are taught
to drink alcohol safly with their family.
Because of laws & parental
overprotectiveness teenagers are forced
to sneak around their families trying to
hide the fact they consume alcohol
when their parents do freely.

Ben a boy of 17 had his first drink at 14

at a family barbeque he says that
because he was taught to drink in a safe
environment he is very mature about
drinking alcohol & can enjoy having a
good time with his friends while still
being responsible.

It is reported that people who start

drinking before the age of fourteen are
more likely to suffer problems with
alcohol later in life. But many of these
people tend to have alcoholic parents,
high levels of trauma and other factors
that increase the risk of alcoholism.
In many countries children are taught
how to consume alcohol at a young age
some of these group include Italians,
Greeks and French who report low
rates of alcohol abuse.
Sally a girl of 16 said her family are
very strict about alcohol at home and
never let her drink which is why she
must lie to her parents each time she
goes to a party I just tell them Im
sleeping over a friends house, when im
actually out getting smashed Sally was
never taught how to treat alcohol
properly at home this is why she
doesnt understand the impact it can
have on her life if she doesnt drink
safely. When I drink, I drink as much
as I can because I dont get to do it very
often Sallys parents naively deny to
teach sally how to consume alcohol
properly at home which forces her to
sneak around her parents back.
A federally funded study showed that
teenagers who drank with their
parents and were taught how to
consume alcohol properly drink less
often and are less likely to engage in
risky behaviours such as binge
drinking.
Dr Mark Bellis who led the study
said the majority of people who are
drinking at early ages are not the
problem drinkers later in life, the real
issue is about people understanding
alcohol and being set a good example
by their parents he also added the
majority of people by the age of 14,
15, or 16have drunk alcohol. The
question is are they learning to drink
from their parents , in a socially
responsible environment or are they
learning to drink behind the bushes in
a park
Teenagers should learn to consume
alcohol at home in a safe
environment where they can be
taught to drink responsibly and their
parents can set a good example of
how to treat alcohol with maturity.
