2) Abstract
o Must be complete, should include: 1) Intro, 2) problem statement, 3) aim/objective, 4) methodology,

3) Chapter 1: Introduction
o Problem statement:
o Identify, formulate and explain the nature of problem (that you are going to solve, not others to
solve)
o Complex mechanical engineering problem (technically challenging, many possible solution,etc)
o Objectives
o Must be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, Timely
o Not steps of your methodology rather what to you want to achieve at the end of the research
o Relevant to solve the stated problems
o Scope of Study (generally justify the coverage or limitation of research)
o Significance of Research (benefits to university, industry, government, mankind, environment, etc)
o Include Timeline/Gantt Chart and explain
4) Chapter 2: Literature Review
o Show processing of information and knowledge:
o Perform a critical review; comment and evaluate the previous literature
o Categorise and summarise previous literature in a table form
o Include research gap; declare that your project is new, related but not yet covered in the
previous literature.
5) Chapter 3: Methodology
o Show how the methodology has been developed/designed/planned based on fundamental
engineering principles and mathematics existing in literature
o Include Research methodology flowchart and explain
o Every selection must be justified-why? Selection of Technique/Experimental
method/design/Equipments/ Parameters (i.e. Force, temperature, etc)/Parameter values (i.e. for Force:
10kN, 20kN)/Materials
o Include Resource Usage (No, Item, Source, Unit Cost, Quantity, Total Cost, Sources (MFI,rent,buy), Remarks)
6) Chapter 4: Results and Discussion
o Present results in tables and figure and explain
o Discuss, explain and validate results using fundamental engineering principles and compare with
previous literature or using other methods
7) Chapter 5: Conclusions
o Conclusions of each objective set before in term of achievement
o State overall, general conclusion
o Recommend future works
8) References
o Citation of reference must be made in the content of the thesis
o At least 25 references
o 60% or more should be new references (5 years or newer)
9) Attached a CD containing softcopies of:
o 1) Thesis 2) Proposal 3) Presentation slides 4) Poster 5) Designs and/or 6) Computer program codes
