1. Categorization of electricity customers based on the
hourly consumption profile
Date: 2016 ongoing
Mini-abstract: To categorize electricity customers based on annual consumption or fuse
size was a fair approximation when only monthly consumption data was available. But with
the progress of hourly metering for all types of customers it becomes possible to study and
charge the customer based on their hourly consumption profile. This study follows from the
conclusions of the Energiforsk-project Synthesis of Electricity Tariffs where it became
apparent that customers with the same subscribed fuse-size didnt necessarily have similar
consumption patterns. By using Big Data-analysis of real customer consumption data from
distribution grids all over Sweden, knowledge regarding how the current common practice
of categorizing customers within the industry (utilities and retailers) reflects the detailed
picture for each customer and the costs they cause, as well as suggest how a future
categorization based on the consumption pattern of each individual customer can look like.
The aim is to integrate how the customer gets incentivized in this categorization, and
thereby aiding the creation of more efficient tariffs.

1. Over-arching tariff-analysis in the Trollhttan
distribution grid
Date: 2015 2016
Client: Trollhttan Energi Elnt AB
Mini-abstract: Comparative analysis of revenues in the grid of Trollhttan depending on
different choices of tariff and feed-in tariff. The shaping of the tariffs are done by analysing
approximately 6 000 customers with hourly metering. Effects of weather, demand

7. Tariff-synthesis
Date: 2015
Client: Energiforsk AB
Mini-abstract: How does the revenues of utility change when the customers become more
energy efficient? By order of Energiforsk, Sweco investigated this more closely by
developing a new analysis-model. With this model it was possible to investigate how a
change in the pattern of electricity-use among the customers will affect both the revenues
of the utility as well as the costs for the customers. The changes in electicity use that were
analysed covered increased demand response and a large-sclae roll-out of EV. and PVs.
All the analysis was conducted assuming the DSO used one of six different tariff with
various compositions including power- and/or energy fees, time-differentiation as well as
other dynamics.

8. Mapping and analysis of the Swedish market for
electricity-meters
Date: 2015
Client: Confidential
Mini-abstract: Mapping and analysis of the Swedish market for electricity-meters starting
from Swecos knowledge of the current and historical situation. What is the driver for a
meter-change from a regulatory, technical and customer perspective? Economic
incentives, profit and depreciation are parts of the study.

Mini-abstract: Today, the island of Utklippan is connected to the mainland electricity grid
by a land-cable. The cable is in poor condition and it is uncertain how long it will last. The
project will investigate alternative means for electricity-provision through solar, wind and
wave power, as well as additional support from fuel cells and energy storages.

1. Hourly metering for DSOs
Date: 2014
Mini-abstract: Demand on hourly metering values for DSOs. Several studies indicate that
knowledge of energy creates awareness and thereby improve energy efficiency. Current
regulatory framework in Sweden requires hourly measurements at no extra charge if the
customer's electricity supply contract requires this type of measurement. This assignment
is to carry out a cost / benefit analysis of a changed regulatory framework that requires
hourly measurements at no extra cost to the customer without the requirement of an
electricity supply contract.

3. Analysing the impact of Smart Grid on different
voltage levels in an electricity network
Date: 2014
Mini-abstract: At the system level, an increase in share of wind and solar power put
increased demands on the grid both domestically and through an increased need for
exchange with our neighbours. At the local level, an increase in share small-scale,
decentralized production, primarily from solar and wind power, leading to an increased
need for investment in the local networks, but also in regional networks. Furthermore, an
increase in percentage of electric cars, and other new electricity technologies, new
demands upon DSO-grid if many drivers recharge their cars at the same time.

Mini-abstract: A continuation of the project Demand and challenges for the distribution
and transmission grids of the future (2014). The question formulation was; To what extent
can the future need for investment be avoided with the means of demand response and/or
energy storage? The savings and business cases for energy storage schemes, electrical
vehicles providing services and demand response were all assessed The analysis was
conducted on all three levels of the electricity grid; national, transmission and distribution
grid. The annual savings and increased efficiency due to Smart Grid applications was
presented in a final report.

in Angola
Date: 2014
Mini-abstract: This objective of the delegation was to share the Swedish knowledge and
experience of sustainable urban development and to use this as a platform for mutual
discussions and application of the SymbioCity methodology of energy and urban planning
applicable for Angola. The Cazenga Sambizanga project involves creating sustainable
urban energy supply for the central districts. The area is 54 sq km. with approx. one million
inhabitants. The training targets twenty key persons from Angola requiring training and
capacity building within energy and holistic urban development.

Mini-abstract: Developing and implementing a software model tool for making revenue
assessments under different scenarios. The environments used were Lavastorm Analytics
Engine and MS Excel. As electricity usage is subject to change and variability, and with an
increasing share of distributed generation (e.g. roof-mounted PV-modules) the distribution
grid company needed a software tool for easily simulating different scenarios
(colder/warmer winter, high/low penetration of distributed generation, change in energy
usage, etc.). The model has support for a wide variety of parameters and variables such
as different penetration levels of distributed generation, colder/warmer climate, change in
electricity usage, different rate plans (subscription fee, power tariff fee and time
differentiated power fee/subscription fee). Furthermore, high-voltage consumer rate plans
are also possible to include in the simulations.
