There shall bee no ridges or abrupt changes on the face and its variation from its specified position shall not exceed -£151mm in 3m. The minimum clear distance between che guide walls shall be the specified diaphragm wall thickness plus 25mm and the maximum distance shall be the specified diaphragm wall thickness plus 50 mm. 88.42 Diaphragm wall Toferances shall bein accordance with Clause B1.8, unless otherwise and barrottes stated in the Project Specification. In the case of barrettes, the above specified maximum deviation shall apply in any direction ‘An additional tolerance of 100mm shall be allowed for concrete protrusions formed by overbreak of resulting from cavities in the ground, Where soft, loose of organic soil layers are anticipated, oF structions are to be removed during panel excassction, an adafitional overbreak tolerance shall be stated in the Project Specification. Responsibility for the removal of protrusions shall be stated in the contract Specitication for piling and embedded retaining walls. Thomas Telford, London, 2007 15 88.4.3 Recesses Where recesses are to be formed by inserts in the wall, the vertical toleranes shall be that of Cliuse 88.4.4, and the horizontal tolerance shall be that of Clause BR.44 plus the horizontal tolerance from Clause B42 88.4.4 Reinforcement Reinforcement shall be maintained in its correct position during con- creting of the panel within a vertical tolerance of +150/—S0 mm (i.e. a maximum of {50m high) on the level ofthe reinforcement projecting above the final cut-off level The longitudinal tolerance of the eage at final cut-off level measured along the excavation shali be 75mm within the pane! 88.4.5 Concrete casting If the cut-oft level for the panel is less than 1 m below the top level of level the guide walls, uncontaminated concrete shalt be brougin to the top of the guide walls. If the cut-off level is greater than 1m below the top level of the guide walls, concrete shall be brought to Im above the cut-off level specified, with a tolerance of £150imm. An additional tolerance of +150 mim over the above Colerances shall be permitted for each 1.0m of depth by which the cut-off level is below the top of the guide wall, up to A maximum of 2.0m 88.4.6 Dimensions of The thickness of a panel shall be not less than the specified thickness. panels The lengths of all panefe shall be within the limits on length specified in the Project Specification. The Contractor shall be responsible for selecting panel dimensions which ensure stability, If, in the Contrac: tor’s opinion, the specified panel dimensions are not aclequate to ensure stability, he shall inform the Engineer at the time of tender. 88.4.7 Water retention The Contractor shall carry out the repair of any joint, defect or panel where, on exposure of the diaphragm wall, the wall is not deemed “watertight” as specified im Clause BLY 88.5 Construction The Contractor shall produce construction drawings including a panel ii processes jayout drawing and reinforcement fabrication drawings for each 88.5.1 Drawings panel. These drawings shall be submitted to the Engineer in accor- dance with the approval period stated in the Project Specification. 88.5.2 Guide walls The design and construction of the guide walls shall be the responsi bility of the Contractor and shall take into account the actual site and ground conditions, all temporary loadings whether from re- inforcement cages, stop-ends or equipment and the required level of support fluid to ensure stability and avoid undercutting of the guide walls, Guide walls shall be constructed in reinforced concrete or | other suitable materials. The minimum depth of guide walls shall be 1.0m and the minimum shoulder width shall be 0.3m for reinforced concrete guide walls. Reinforcement continuity shall be provided between adjacent sections of guide walls. 8.5.3 Stability of the A suitable guide wall shall be used in conjunction with the method to excavation ensure stability of the strata near ground level until conefete and any bbackdill peaterial bas been placed. During construction the level of support fluid in the excavation shall be maintained within the guide wall or stable ground so that stability is ensured. In the event of a loss of support fluid from an excavation, the I Contractor shall notify the Engineer of his intended action before | proceeding. % Spocitication for piting and embedded retaining walts, Thomas Telford, London, 2007 ————————————————— ————
