ANP Blackstone Energy Project
is owned by ANP Blackstone Energy
Company which is powered by a gen-
erator which is a machine by which
mechanical energy is transformed
into electrical energy that tends to
increase its temperature and may
lead to overheating. Loss of coolant
because of a coolant leak is probably
the most common cause of engine
overheating.
Generator Condition Monitors
for Air Cooled Apparatus are used to
prevent overheating of the genera-
tors. High voltages and potentially
explosive hydrogen gas make early
detection of generator hot spots im-
perative. Corrective action prompted
by early warning of generator over-
heating can mean the difference be-
tween a brief shut-down for minor re-
pairs and a major overhaul involving
weeks of costly downtime.
Solution
To protect the generators at
Blackstone Energy Project from
overheating, we can use the Gener-
ator Condition Monitors for Air
Cooled Apparatus (GCM-A). High
concentrations of sub- micrometer
particles (pyrolysis products) are re-
leased whenever any material is
heated sufficiently to create thermal
decomposition. The GCM-A detects
the pyrolysis particles emitted into
the cooling air (or ambient air) as a
result of overheating or arcing. Addi-
tionally, we can prevent overheating
by analyzing the overload conditions,
poor power condition, high effective
service factor, frequent stops and
starts, and environmental reasons.
