Capstone Project Proposal 5
Introduction
For my capstone project I decided to study beneficial coaching techniques that will help
me successfully coach my divers, also study skills that will help them develop needed techniques
during their diving career. For my project I would like to achieve success through coaching my
divers and seeing a physical difference throughout their diving. I will put the coaching
techniques that I will be studying to the test, which will give me the change to develop a good
understanding of what skills work with my divers and what ones dont. Understanding what
coaching skills benefit the kids most will also help develop their diving as well.
I chose beneficial coaching skills for young divers as my topic of interest because
coaching is what I enjoy doing and it is something that I am very passionate about. I work with
small children so being able to see a difference in their focus and in their physical capabilities is
an amazing thing to be a-part of, advancing my coaching skills to better their capabilities is
something I want to achieve through my capstone studies. I want to educate myself on the
coaching skills that help my divers most, and understand which coaching techniques arent
useful for my age group of divers. I also would like to see if my new coaching skills have an
impact on their diving, I will see this by comparing their competition scores from last year to this
year in December.
I started spring board and platform diving at the age of seven with an Olympic level
coach, I dove until the age of fourteen. At the age of fourteen I decided to become a coach
because I was inspired by my former coach. Ive been a coach now for about three years now,
starting at the beginner level. In the last two years I have been working with my mini

competition team which is made up of five to seven year olds that show promise in diving. I
have also worked with the junior competition team which is eight to thirteen year olds. Ive
gained knowledge through other high level coaches that I have been working with throughout my
three years as a coach. Im surrounded daily by Olympic and national level coaches and I am
constantly learning new things, with this project I will be able to take their advice and also take
the skills that I will be studying and apply it to my divers to see an improvement.
After high school and post-secondary school I would like to become a lawyer that
specializes in child custody and childrens rights. Being a coach has taught me to have patience
with children and understand their limits. Being good with kids and understanding how their
brains are working through stressful and painful situations is something that I have experience in.
Diving is not an easy sport, especially with young kids. Having a background in coaching and
working with children will help me further develop my skills with children to accomplish my
career goals.
Conclusion
Through this project I want to successfully develop skills that will further enhance my
divers capabilities, mentally and physically. I will complete this task by studying beneficial
coaching skills and applying them during my classes at the pool and gym. Throughout my
project I plan to stay organized and push myself to try new things so Im able to accomplish my
