Indonesia is a developing country that is rich in the potential of its natural resources.

There are many unexplored potentials that can be used for the benefit of the people. Along
with the development of the era of physical development such as industrial development and
housing are also increased. One of the potential mineral mineral (Law No. 4 of 2009 about
mineral and coal mining) in Kulon Progo Regency is iron sand.
This research is conducted to give estimation of quantity of resources in Mining
license of PT. Jogja Magasa Iron located in Karangwuni Village, Wates District, Kulon
Progo Regency, Special Province of Yogyakarta. The research area is about 5,279,203 m2.
The research method is done by doing literature study, observation on the dispersal of
iron sand deposits, collecting data, up to the conclusion and suggestion.
The result of calculation using cross section method with guidance of the rule of
gradual changes obtained by volume equal to 43,066,534 m3 with tonnage of
77,089,103,56 ton while with rule of nearest point is obtained equal to 43.396.541 m3 with
tonnage equal to 77.679.810,97 ton . The results of the cross section rule of nearest point
method resulted in a larger volume of resources than the rule of gradual changes. This
difference can occur because the calculation of iron sand resources with the gradual changes
of volume is calculated based on the average between the two cross sections and multiplied
by the distance between cross sections. While at the nearest point (rule of nearest point) each
cross section is multiplied by half the distance between the adjacent cross section so that
each cross section has one volume, in other words the influence of analytical interpretation
on both methods is not comparable.
