Your child is focusing on readings about Identity Awareness. Readings revolve

around the theme Our Favorite Places. Your child will read and evaluate a poem,
narrative stories, and an informative/explanatory text that explore the theme.
1. Beach Blues is a narrative story about a boy named David, who visits his
grandmother and discovers a problem at a beach near her house.
2. Behind the Scenes at a Movie Theater is an informative text about the history
of movie theaters and their day-to-day operations.
3. The Fair is a poem about the things that can be seen, heard, eaten, and
experienced at a fair.
4. All Aboard is an narrative story about a familys train trip across the United
States. The story is told through letters from the main character Susie.
Throughout the reading process, your child will focus on the following
elements of the reading process: comprehension skills, word study, fluency, and
comprehension strategies. As students use these elements, they will expand their
vocabulary and become better thinkers and readers in all their classes.

 Estimada familia:
Su hijo(a) est realizando lecturas acerca de la Conciencia de Identidad
(Identity Awareness). Las lecturas giran en torno al tema Nuestros lugares
favoritos. Su hijo(a) leer y evaluar un poema, narraciones y un texto
informativo/explicativo que exploran ese tema.
1. Beach Blues es una narracin acerca de un nio llamado David que va a visitar
a su abuela y descubre un problema en una playa cercana a la casa de la abuela.
2. Behind the Scenes at a Movie Theater es un texto informativo acerca de la
historia de las salas de cine y su funcionamiento diario.
3. The Fair es un poema acerca de las cosas que pueden verse, orse, comerse y
experimentarse en una feria.
4. All Aboard es la narracin del viaje en tren que una familia realiza por los
Estados Unidos. La historia se narra a travs de las cartas que Susie, la
protagonista, le escribe a su amiga Jade.
Durante la lectura, su hijo(a) se concentrar en los siguientes elementos del
proceso de lectura: habilidades de comprensin, estudio de palabras, fluidez y
estrategias de comprensin. A medida que los estudiantes usen estos elementos,
su vocabulario se ir enriqueciendo y se volvern mejores pensadores y lectores en
todas sus asignaturas.
