FILTER DESIGNER 2D
INTEGRATED FILTER SYNTHESIS MODULE

FilterDesigner2D is a fully-integrated tool for the design and synthesis of planar and
circuit filters in CSTSTUDIOSUITE. Built on Nuhertz Technologies well-reputed and
mature technology, FilterDesigner2D can be used to quickly select an appropriate filter
type and generate a simulation-ready circuit or 3D model.

Synthesis tools allow rapid initial design of a filter, while MAIN FEATURES

TYPICAL WORKFLOW FOR A PLANAR FILTER

The combination of FilterDesigner2D, CSTDESIGNSTUDIO
and CSTMICROWAVESTUDIO can cover every stage of the
planar filter design process, from the initial topology selec-
tion to the final optimization and analysis. These modules are
all part of CSTSTUDIOSUITE, which means that the entire
workflow can be performed in a single design environment.

TOPOLOGY CHOICE AND SYNTHESIS

The first step is to set the design requirements in
FilterDesigner2D. The user can then compare different
topologies in order to find a suitable filter type.

FAST ANALYTIC OPTIMIZATION

Once chosen, the filter design is automatically exported to
CSTDESIGNSTUDIO as a collection of analytic transmis-
sion line elements. These can be analyzed and optimized in
seconds with circuit simulation methods.

FULL 3D SIMULATION
The optimized design can then be assembled in 3D
and simulated using the full-wave EM solvers in
CSTMICROWAVESTUDIO. This simulates fully the coupling
between elements, and the effect of additional components
like connectors, transitions, and the housing, to accurately
characterize filter behaviour.

FURTHER ANALYSIS
The 3D model can be imported into other projects to allow
a wide range of other studies. Filters can be modeled inside
enclosures or integrated into larger systems, while the link
to CSTMPHYSICSSTUDIO allows thermal and structural
simulation for a multiphysics analysis of filter detuning.
