TREAT EVERY ROTATION LIKE YOU WANT TO GO INTO IT.

- You should be so enthusiastic that the attending and residents think you want to do it
- Never tell them youre not interested in it/ would never do it. This is their entire
career.
- This will be the last time you ever do that rotation.

Surgery Tips

Uptodate app on your phone.

Poop peed walking eating.

If you didn't change wounds tell them what the bandage looked like but ask if they need u
changed.

Know patients surgical history (in case they ask). Don't have to say it in the presentation

Age etc

Go inside OR with a mask before scrubbing in.

Ask resident how to present vitals (range or max or most pertinent or most recent)

Ask the nurse what happened in the prior shift to get you up to

Look up the past 24 hours stuff.

That's what you write your note on.
write a one liner on your note. What happened in 24 hours.
Then talk about the rest.

Presentation should be 1 min. Very short.

Learn how to suture with your hands and do knots.

"Is there anything else I can do for you?" - way to hint that you are ready to go home

Tenderness is a big deal with them. Don't say normal tenderness is tenderensd

even if X-ray isnt read just read it yourself and give them what you think

Questions to ask:

- how would you prefer just in time learning? pull out our phone or do after rounds?

do you want presentations (detail or facts)?
