elementary school, express visual culture and contemporary applied arts. Visual
Culture is what we see in our everyday life, or even things we see but do not pay
attention to. In this reading the big idea is the different approaches to visual culture in art
education including, radical change, applied, and comprehensive art education. Reading
about how the different aged students broke down the meaning of certain pictures to
create meaning and understanding was very interesting. The big idea behind what Gude
expresses through her works of Postmodern Principles, is the different types of art that
Hybridity, Gazing and Representin. All of these types of art making are very different
I would love to be able to adapt all of these types of art from these two articles. It
is interesting to see what students come up with when trying to observe and make
meaning of certain works, and also coming up with their own ideas and meanings of their
own work. When we had to create our own piece of work representing power, I think I
different materials. I would like to teach my students art making that has an effect on
themselves and the people who view it. My piece that I made in class on Tuesday showed
visual culture and one of Gudes principals, recontextualization, to show how a baby who
should be acting and thinking like a baby, but it is thinking about social media and what it
needs to look like, by having big lips and already wearing a bra. The connotation behind

this artwork was to represent how in everyday life young kids are growing up too fast and
how the use of social media is so powerful and used constantly throughout ones day.
