Foundation Course Lesson 6

What is the Great White Throne Judgment?

The I saw a great white throne and Him sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled
away. And there was found no place for them. - Revelation 20:11

The great white throne judgment Revelation 20:11-15, is the judgment of every unsaved person
who has ever lived, being small or great.

When does this take place?

The great white throne judgment takes place at the end of Christ's 1000 year rule on the earth
Revelation 20:6, and before the new heavens and new earth Revelation 21:1, the old heaven and
earth will be done away with at the same time as this judgment.

Who is the Judge?

Jesus Christ is the judge, John 5:22 tells us that the Father judges no one but has committed all
judgment to the Son. Also the way the judge is described is the same as Jesus,

What happens at this Judgment?

This judgment doesn't settle if someone is going to heaven or the lake of fire, that has been settled
when someone dies if they are born again or not. This judgment is for passing sentence on how
much punishment someone will get, the bible teaches greater and less punishment Matthew 11:20-
24, Luke 12:47-48. That is why books to be opened.

What are the books at the judgment

There are books mentioned at this judgment, we know one is called the book of life, the others we
don't know there names. But what we do know is that they will judged for what they have done and
will have to give an account. God sees everything, Hebrews 4:13 tells us nothing is hidden from His
sight. So every wicked and evil thing people do they will have to answer for. This should make us
think as Christians when we are doing the things of the world, God sees all!!

Because at this judgment man is judged by what he has done, means not everyone will have the
same level of punishment as the verses in Matthew 11:20-24, & Luke 12:47-48 teach us, God is a
just judge and will give man a fair punishment for what he deserves.

Death and Hades

We learn that death and hades or hell were cast into the lake of fire. We must understand that hell
and the lake of fire are not the same place, when you tell someone they are going to hell for eternity,
that is wrong the bible does not teach that. Unsaved people spend eternity in the lake of fire which
was prepared for the devil and his angels Matthew 25:41. The lake of fire was not created for man
but for the devil, how much God loves us that He sent His Son Jesus to die for us John 3:16.

The book of life

The book of life has all the names of those who have Jesus as their Lord and Saviour in it. We know
it is possible to have your name taken out of the book Psalm 69:28, Revelation 3:5. But at this
Foundation Course Lesson 6

judgment no one will have their name in the book of life because it is just unsaved being judged. In
that day only thing will matter is being lost without Jesus as Saviour.

So everyone at this judgment will be cast into the lake of fire, eternal torment awaits whoever
appears at the great white throne.

Questions

1) Read 2 Corinthians 5:11. This talks about persuading men, surely knowing the terror of the Lord
we should tell our loved ones, friends any unsaved we meet, thinking of the lake of fire and what
they punish they will get for eternity, we should do a lot more. Do you tell your loved ones that they
need Jesus? Do you really believe in they will be judged? If there is a reason why you dont, talk to
your pastor, pray for the boldness to witness and get serious about what you believe time is short.

2) Read Revelation 3:5. This talks of being able to have a name written out of the book of life. Is
your name in it? Are you truly saved? Have you a real relationship with Jesus Christ or just playing
church? If you are unsure, pray and repent until you are sure, also speak to your pastor who can
help you.
