Printing a Banner
With certain BJ printer models, you can print banners by loading special banner
paper in the printer. For details on how to load banner paper, see your printer
manual.
This section describes the print settings for printing on banner paper.

Collate
Groups all the pages of each copy together when printing more than one copy
of a document. If you don't check this box, all the page 1's will be grouped
together, then all the page 2's, and so on. This checkbox is greyed out if
Copies is set to 1.
3. Click OK.
The printer properties dialogue box closes.
Note
?13 The Page Layout box and Page Border, Reverse Order and Collate
checkboxes will be greyed out if you've selected Print directly to the printer or
turned Enable advanced printing features off on the Advanced tab of the Canon
XXXX Properties dialogue box.
Creating Effects
You can make printed images more interesting or eye-catching by applying different
effects to them. The printer driver offers two effects: Simulate Illustration and
Monochrome Effects. These effects are available on the Effects tab.
Simulate Illustration
The Simulate Illustration effect lets you make photographs look like hand-drawn
illustrations.

Monochrome Effects
Monochrome Effects lets you turn a colour image into a tinted monochrome image.
You can also use it to colourize a black and white image.
To turn Monochrome Effects on, do this:
1. Open the Canon XXXX Printing Preferences (NT 4.0: Canon XXXX Default) or
Canon XXXX Properties dialogue box and click the Effects tab.

tint in the colour swatch above the slider.
4. Click OK.

Optimizing Images
Low-resolution images, such as web-page graphics downloaded via the Internet, and
images you've enlarged with a graphics application often contain jagged edges. To
smooth these edges when printing, turn the Image Optimizer on.
15
CANON BJ PRINTER DRIVER GUIDE
If you want to print an image taken with a digital camera or acquired by a scanner,
you may want to correct any problems with the image-for instance, colour shift,
overexposure or underexposure. You can do this by applying photo optimisation with
Photo Optimizer or Photo Optimizer PRO, depending on which of these two features
your printer supports.

Print Quality
To improve the print quality, drag the Print Quality slider toward Fine. The
resolution and print mode change according to the setting of the slide bar.
Using a higher setting increases printing time.
Halftoning
The colours and shapes of printouts are reproduced by the ink dots ejected
from the nozzles of the print heads. Halftoning determines the colour
boundaries of intermediate tones.
Dither lines up ink dots of different colours according to rules specified in the
printer driver. Use this setting for printing graphics or charts with clearly-
defined colour boundaries.
Diffusion randomly positions ink dots of different colours. Use this setting for
printing natural images such as photographs.
Auto lets the printer driver automatically distinguish between the types of
image data and use the most appropriate halftoning method.
4. Click OK.
The Set Print Quality dialogue box closes.
5. Click OK.
The printer properties dialogue box closes.
Note
?20 Depending on the BJ Cartridge and Media Type settings on the Main tab,
some of the Print Quality and Halftoning settings cannot be used.
Adjusting Images
If the colour of your printouts is unsatisfactory, you can adjust the colour balance and
intensity. Use this feature only when you want to make fine adjustments to the colour
balance in the printouts, and do not change the settings too much. (Note that this
feature doesn't correct the overall colour balance of the image data as some image
editing applications do.)
17
CANON BJ PRINTER DRIVER GUIDE
Brightness
Specifies the contrast among intermediate tones between black and white.
Adjusting the brightness towards Light makes the overall image brighter, with
stronger contrast in light areas and lower contrast in dark areas.
4. Click OK.
The Manual Colour Adjustment dialogue box closes.
5. Click OK.
The printer properties dialogue box closes.
