REPORTERS INVITED TO APOLLO 11 30th ANNIVERSARY EVENTS
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first landing of
humans on the moon, NASA will be participating in several events around the country; some will be open for press coverage. The most current schedule can be found on the Internet at:
* Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong and Lunar Module Pilot
Buzz Aldrin, along with other Apollo-era astronauts, will be available to the press on Friday, July 16, at 5:30 p.m. EDT at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, FL. For press credentials, call the Kennedy Space Center newsroom at 407/867-2468. The event will be carried live on NASA Television, but there will be no question- and-answer capability from other NASA centers.
* NASA, in cooperation with the Apollo 11 Commemoration
Association, will host a dinner at 8 p.m. EDT Friday, July 16, at the Kennedy Space Center's Apollo Saturn V Facility to highlight the contributions of aerospace workers who made the Apollo program possible. For press credentials, call the Kennedy Space Center newsroom at 407/867-2468.
* The Apollo 11 crew -- Armstrong, Aldrin and Command Module
Pilot Michael Collins -- will receive the prestigious Langley Medal from the Smithsonian Institution's Board of Regents at the National Air and Space Museum on Tuesday, July 20, at 8:30 a.m. EDT. This will be a photo opportunity only. The crew will not be available for interviews or to answer questions. For press reservations, call Amy Dyson at the museum's public affairs office on 202/357-1552. Space is extremely limited and reservations are required to attend. * Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins will participate in the
taping of a special television broadcast during which they will discuss their historic mission and answer questions from young students in the studio of the Newseum in Arlington, VA, at 1 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, July 20.
