My Will Be Done

I.

When solless comes, I hit the streets.

In search of men, scriben on these sheets.

Incognitously, I make my rounds.

Discease I shall, til they've been found.

II.

"Finally!" I said. The culprit I see.

Hence, pulled the gun I brought with me.

Ready to fire at the count of three!

The malant is gone, all thanks to me.

III.

Bodies fall flat on the ground,

When dangerous drugs have been found.

Regretlessly, fight at all cost.

Even when multibio are lost.

IV.

In this war, blood will be shed.

Human rights violations? It's all in your head!

Explanation:

This poem is relevant and timely to the present situation of the Philippines as a result of
the current administrations war against drugs. It narrates how these vigilantes begin their hunt
late at night, anonymously surveying the streets in search of drug offenders on their list. Once

they have found their target, they shoot them without any hesitation in the belief that they are
helping the society. In this war against drugs, innocent lives are lost and suspects are convicted
without giving them a chance to have a day in court.

This poem is written in the first person to reflect the acts and ways of thinking of people
behind the notorious extrajudicial killings that have been haunting the streets of our country. The
I being referred to in the poem are those self-righteous armed individuals who take the law into
their own hands and arbitrarily decide who gets to live and who deserves to die. Though we are a
government of laws and not of men, these people act as if they are the law.
