Synopsis
The objectives of this training course are to:
a) Provide exposure and knowledge on emergency rescue techniques
b) Improve knowledge on the correct fire extinguishing skill
c) Improve working relationship between Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia and The Institution of Engineers,
Malaysia
On day one, participants will be exposed to theory of fire. Fire is formed when elements such as heat, flammable material
and oxygen are present. Procedure of wearing breathing apparatus will be taught on second session. Breathing apparatus
is an essential tool for firemen in carrying out fire extinguishing and rescuing operations especially in narrow spaces such as
in buildings, tunnels or sewers. Participants will be given the opportunity to use the equipment and walk in a narrow space.
The coach will also assist the participants to enter the Breathing Apparatus (BA) Gallery, which is a dark and narrow room
with obstacles, with the aid of breathing apparatus. The movement of participants will be monitored through the control
room located in the gallery. Communication plays an important role indirectly in this dark and narrow room. Teamwork can
also be nurtured through this session. In the afternoon, participants will be taught to extinguish fire inside container.
Extinguishing techniques such as Temperature Check, Door Entry, Nozzle Spraying techniques (i.e. Short Pulse, Long Pulse,
Penciling and Painting) will be taught and trained practically. These techniques are practiced by firefighters against the real
fire through Offensive Internal Fire Fitting (OIFF) to avoid serious damage due to the excessive water usage (water
damage).
On day two, risk management will be introduced. Risk management is defined as correct and safe work breakdown while
saving lives from a critical situation to a more stable situation and subsequently moving the victim to a safer place. In this
session, the participants will also be exposed to the technique of rope knot techniques and equipment used to rescue
victims especially on high cliffs or buildings. Rescue training will be conducted at Hose Tower, Fire Station Bayan Baru (to
be confirmed). The victim will be brought down from fourth floor to ground floor using rope and stretcher.
