2. Bill 1 to Reduce School Fees
Many fees are currently under review by the Alberta Government. At New Brighton
School there are no mandatory fees. Yearbook, Lunch-time activity fee and Noon
Supervision are all optional products/services. All on-site and off-site activities that
have a fee are also optional. In the CBE no student will be denied access to
educational programs based on an inability to pay.

3. Family Portrait Night
The school will be hosting a family portrait evening on October 10. Details are
coming home via email and handout.

4. School Start-Up
We feel we have a great start to the school year. All students have begun the year
exploring a text The Three Questions by Jon Muth. A common text allows
teachers and students to begin teaching and learning together right away and
emphasizes our belief that all students have the ability to explore questions that
require thinking and reflecting. Ms. McComish and Mr. Hutton have met with every
teacher to discuss the successes of the school year so far and highlight briefly the
particular needs and talents of individual students. You will see some evidence of
students exploration of the three questions during conferences this week.

5. Terry Fox Run
New Brighton School will be participating in the Terry Fox Run on September 28.
Well be running around the pond and collecting Tonnies for Terry. Volunteers are
required and if you can help out please email Ms. Nanavaty directly at
jlnanavaty@cbe.ab.ca

6. Student Teachers
New Brighton School will be hosting a cohort of 10 University of Calgary Student
Teachers beginning in November.

On behalf of the staff at New Brighton School we would like to thank the many
people who support School Council and the Parent Society. Over the next year we
look forward to working together to enhance the learning experience of all of our
students.
